Pick any offensive statistic and chances are that Miguel Cabrera is at or near the top spot on the leaderboard. He's hitting .384, No. 1 in the majors, and his .667 slugging percentage also ranks first. His OBP is all the way down in second place at .455, tied with Shin-Soo Choo and trailing only Joey Votto. He's fourth in the league with 12 homers and first in RBI with 49. His .287 isolated power, which we discussed a few weeks ago with regard to Chris Davis, ranks sixth. No matter what stat you prefer to measure hitters by, Cabrera is having another incredible season.

Fantasy baseball Pitching Report: Odorizzi a worthy option

Jake Odorizzi became the second high-profile pitching prospect to emerge from the minors this year, making his season debut about a month after the Reds' Tony Cingrani. Like Cingrani, Odorizzi earned his promotion thanks to a combination of success at the Triple-A level and an injury to an ace on his parent club. For Cingrani, it was Johnny Cueto. For Odorizzi, it was David Price. After getting touched up for three runs by the Blue Jays in his first two innings Monday, Odorizzi did not allow another hit in his final three innings and retired 10 of the last 11 batters he faced. He struck out six batters while walking just one, and a poor call by one of the umpires made his line worse than it should have been. The question for us in this week's pitching report is what value should fantasy owners assign to Odorizzi for the remainder of the year?

It's hard to view injuries in a positive light, but sometimes they come at the right time. Case in point: Cy Young winner David Price has been struggling throughout the season, winning just one game. His triceps strain is unfortunate, but maybe it will allow him to reset and get back on track. Meanwhile, Johnny Cueto returned to the mound for Cincinnati Monday night, just as the Reds gear up to face the division rival Pirates and Cubs in 10 of their next 20 games. And Shane Victorino, who's becoming a regular in the Injury Report, left Monday night's game with a sore hamstring; maybe this will be the injury that forces him to take some real time off and return at full strength.
