there will be a price that none of us will want to pay for this. all we can do now is hope this goes to the US supreme court so this silliness will stop. this is not the ruling of the people. time and again has been shown that the majority is against this but a handful of judges do not speak for us. they will answer for it, too.

I am so happy. This will hopefully pave the way to give same-sex couples & families the same legal rights & opportunities as heterosexual couples & families. In my opinion, this is a legal matter & not a religious matter. Same-sex families should have equal rights & protection under the law.

As a Californian, I'm proud of my state! I simply don't buy the argument that allowing same-sex marriages weakens traditional marriages. As a married woman (heterosexual union), I don't feel like my union is worth any less because same sex couples are being granted the same freedoms. Anyone who feels that same sex marriages degrade family values likely doesn't live in an area where families built by same sex couples are prominent.

We all have a right to love who we want. Thank you Cali Supreme Court for doing the right thing. I wish the nation would learn a thing or two about protecting it's citizens rights. EVERY single person in a relationship with another, regardless of sex, should be protected!

Its about time. Canada allowed gay marriage a couple years ago and everything is going along fine there. No big changes, it didn't threaten marriage as an institution.

Why does this minority group have so much influence? Follow the money. Why do people choose to push their lifestyles on every one. Why should my children see two men and two women. This is not normal behavior. What if a man wants to marry his sister, we must to make this odd couple happy? A man wants to wed a little girl that he says loves him and he loves her, should we allow them to wed too? What is this country coming to?

finally. this is no different than womens right to vote, or equality of african americans. the religions views of a group of people should not be legally enforced on the whole population.

My partner and I adopted four kids from the foster care system. We have been a family for over 10 years. It was a bitter sweet day many years ago when we had to leave the country in order to get legally married in Canada.

It's good when the law catches up to reality.

This is not another Roe v. Wade travesty. The people of
California will decide this once and for all in November.

I can understand some people having a major problem with this. I have to admit I don't particularily care watching men kiss men or women kiss women. My problem comes from ANYONE trying to convince me that it is normal or an alternative life style. NORMAL by definition is something done by the vast majority. I am not calling it perverted or any other negative term, it is what is, just don't tell me it is normal.
Also I have no desire to see gay couples on TV to the point that you think 50% of the population is that way when it is closer to 10 to 15%. Other than that I REALLY don't care.

By the way..THE BIGGEST THREAT TO MARRIAGE IS THE 50% DIVORCE RATE. We need to focus on that a heck of a lot more than this.

Why is this news… It's the 9th Circuit is it not? Anthing other than this outcome would have actually been shocking.

I don't approve, but who am I to judge. I just don't like it when they tell me I have to accept it with open arms. Just like I don't like having Obama thrust upon me as my only choice in November? I will write Hillary Clinton on my ballot and if that means McCain wins, so be it. McCain will be a better President then Obama.

In my humble opinion Holy Matrimony is different than a civil marriage. One is a function of the church and is sacred and the other is a function of the secular state. The state cannot discriminate against its citizens without violating their civil rights. Separation of Church and State forever!! It's about time that California allow loving same sex couples to marry. Any state that decides to follow their fair minded ways should also do so. Gay couples are denied basic rights daily in this country, and must live with the constant threat that everything they own and have worked for could be taken away because they "aren't married." Same sex marriage should stay a state-level matter, and the President and Supreme Court should stay out of it. In a country where citizens are free to practice whatever religion they choose, biblical scripture should also stay out of the debate.

We are people, too… who deserve the right to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our families. When my partner had emergency surgery this Spring to remove a tumor on her ear drum, I was denied entrance into the recovery room and was told I "wasn't family." Let any opponent of same sex marriage go through a similar situation, and we'll see how quickly their attitudes change.

Once again, a court is overruling elected representatives who should be carrying out the will of the people they represent.
