From

(CNN) — Obama senior adviser David Axelrod says the Illinois senator’s campaign is “open to compromise” and willing to cede Hillary Clinton the advantage in talks over the seating of the Florida and Michigan delegations at the Democratic National Convention this summer.

"We are willing to go more than half way. We're willing to work to make sure that we can achieve a compromise," Axelrod tells National Public Radio’s Michele Norris in a Wednesday evening interview. "And I guess the question is: is Senator Clinton's campaign willing to do the same?"

Clinton spent Wednesday in Florida highlighting her push for full delegations from both states to be seated in accordance with their January votes, which were not sanctioned by the Democratic National Committee because of the early primary dates. Her campaign has charged the Obama team with blocking a compromise on the issue – a claim that campaign has denied.

"Well obviously, any compromise is going to involve some give, and that means if there's something on the table, we're willing to consider it," Axelrod told NPR in the interview set to air Wednesday evening. “That may include us yielding more delegates than perhaps we would have, simply on the basis of the rules."

Obama now appears likely to finish the primary season with a delegate lead, including superdelegates, that would not disappear if both states’ delegations are seated based on the results of January’s contests, in which his name did not appear on the ballot in Michigan. Clinton won both primaries.

Creative Woody - you need to get informed dude!!!!!!!! Obama and his attorneys are the ones who would not agree to revotes in Michigan or Florida and had threatened to sue the DNC if they seated and counted the Florida and Michigan votes.

Obama supporters who are touted as being so well educated simply just show that the guy is full of hot air - hot air because some of his supporters are just plain old stupid, and hot air because he has no clue as to HOW to get any of the bla bla that he talks about done.

Get real!!!!!!!! He is giving nothing up! Clinton will prevail with the popular vote at the convention - who wants another error like the one made in 2000 putting someone in the White House with no expereience and via the Supreme Court. Gore had the popular vote and Bush filed suit. I will bet that the first words out of Obama's mouth would be that he would take it to the Supreme Court if Clinton has the popular vote and the DNC realizes she is the only one who can beat McCain.

Obama and his people need to understand, the voters rights are first and primary and democratic to count them all. Clinton started right after the New Hampshire primary to fight for the Florida and Michigan votes to count. She had to wait because it set the table for the argument to count the votes in Florida and Michigan since New Hampshire had also moved it's primary up with no penalty. You folks need to understand that this if for the White House and not some person who can only flip-flop from what is said in a debate…to the real world. Guess he needs some further lessons from Clinton!!!!

A vote for Obama is a vote for McCain, a vote for CLinton is a vote for a Democratic White House.

Obama would be willing to become a snake handler if he could capture the Presidency. I just don't trust him.

50/50   May 21st, 2008 7:54 pm ET

Obama was not even on the ballot in Michigan, DUH, and I keep hearing them talk about revoting when Florida doe NOT permit private companies to get access to the voter rolls, it's illegal. The Clintons paint a picture that they tried to pay for a revote in Florida, that is just silly when they know that would have been illegal. Anyway, 50 50.

Mark Rich   May 21st, 2008 7:54 pm ET

Clinch the nomination first and then agree to seat the delegates. Those were mock elections anyway.

terri ohio   May 21st, 2008 7:53 pm ET

Isnt this nice Hilary clintons now campaign adviser Terry McAuliffe was head of the DNC and was one of the people who demanded that if Michigan and Florida moved their Primaries ahead of Iowa they would be penalized and he would make sure that they lose their delegates. This was The Head the guy who made up the rules and set the penalty. This thing was set up before Howard Dean took office. These rules was also the same for the Republicans ( who lost half of their delegates) All parties signed and agreed Now…… What better way to know how to break the rules have the guy on your side who set the rules. Are you telling me that Hillary didn't know she could use this later if her original plan didnt work out ??? Rules are set for a reason For the Clintons to breal them

equator.org   May 21st, 2008 7:53 pm ET

Romney graciously conceded to McCain for the sake of the party even though he still had momentum. I wish we could muster up some of that teamwork in the Democratic Party and go on to win in November.

ACitizen   May 21st, 2008 7:52 pm ET

The Obama camp blocked the re-vote in FL and MI when they knew that would change the dynamics of the election… Obama would have then lost IN by wider margins and probably crawled to the finish line in NC.

Now his camp is willing to cut a deal… why, because they afraid that if they don't the tide might turn against them… Obama camp has been the one that has been manipulating the public:

(1) A false message of change with out any substance
(2) Playing the race card ever so subtly and accusing the Clintons of playing the race card
(3) Running away from a fight when they know they can't win, FL, MI, KY, WV are examples

What is he going to do in the general election…

Republicans will take the fight to them and slaughter him… the only way they can win is by tearing Obama down and the Obama team has demonstrated over and over again that they can't win a fight.

HEY. PAY ATTENTION!

Shane and others all upset and thinking this changes or could change anything, it isn't going to happen. If you give Hillary all the votes she earned in these two states, which is even directly matched up with the votes (check the wiki page on this and the related numbers), she STILL doesn't have enough delegates. You are being tricked by propaganda. I'm sorry, but you are.

I even did the math without giving Obama ANY of the Michigan votes. Guess what? Still is ahead.

Now it's over people, it really is. She can't win. And whoever would have won from the start, what ultimately matters is 4 or 8 years of democratic ideas in Washington instead of more Bush/McCain policy. Vote Democratic. Vote for Progress. Vote for what's right. Are we a country of sore losers, or a country for the future.

Hillarious 08   May 21st, 2008 7:52 pm ET

No No and more No! We the Senator Clinton supporters hereby demand you give her the exact amount it will take to claim the nomination. Oh and by the way we want your fundraising ability, and we want to stick bolts in your neck Axelrod so you will work for us without dissention. Also, we want every kind of unfair advantage (i.e. Race baiting voters, telling bold faced lies and policy flipping) that the American people can stomach. We want this now or else we will vote for tattoo from Fantasy Island.

To Many Have Died To defend This Right !!!!

50 50, those states cannot impact the election, otherwise the states would disregard the rules every election cycle. Clinton will not win no matter what the delegation.

R   May 21st, 2008 7:51 pm ET

He's not doing this for nobody but himself. Now that he thinks he may be the winner, he wants the support of FL and MI. Why now Obama? Why have you constantly rejected any compromise?

My vote will not vote for McCain, but my vote will certainly not go for Obama

This campagne is bigger than Barrack and Hillary. It's also Obama supporters verses Clinton supporters. Obama supporters are small
minded eggotistical raciosts. THAT's RIGHT I SAID RACIST. They are against the whites, the woman, and anyone else who they feel might
keep thier canidate out of the white house. They think just because Barrack is black that he will automatically see things from thier point of view. They have a big shock coming if he becomes President. He
will no longer need you then you'll be crying foul. As for his white supporters, They are voting for him because they don't want to be called racists. All his supporters are just his stepping stones. so bend over get on your hands and knees, as he steps on your backs to get where he's going. And when he's in the white house and he looks at you and says I don't know you. remember I TOLD YOU SO.

Colleen   May 21st, 2008 7:49 pm ET

Its time for the party elders to take Bill and Hill to the woodshed and tell them to do what is best for the party. The constant complaining about being accused of using the race card and blatant sexism are becoming old and sound like playground chatter. It is time to see the writing on the wall and clear the way for the next president of the United States . . . Obama 08!!

sophia nyc   May 21st, 2008 7:49 pm ET

OBAMA DIDN'T TAKE THE VOTES OF FL & MI AWAY.. THE DNC DID AND CLINTON AND OBAMA AND EDWARDS AND ALL THE CANDIDATES SIGNED OFF ON IT!

Why are people so ignorant and why isn't the "news" doing a better job of clearing up this confusion?

Kanani   May 21st, 2008 7:49 pm ET

It is really a sad state of affairs when people actually are gullible enough to believe Hillary's rhetoric, just because. She says she has the most popular vote, ah! Her counting is off, I just counted all the votes. Not counting Michigan, because Obama wasn't on the ticket, Obama has 16,508,754 to Hillary's 16,313,203 Isn't that ahead. Now if we add in Hillary's numbers in Michigan (which was totally unfair because Obama nor Edwards was on the ticket), she has a grand total of 16,641,354, yes this shows she is ahead but how legite is this. Now if you add in the uncommitted numbers from Michigan, largely those that would probably have gone to either Edwards or Obama that number brings it up to 16,746,516. I would say that is a majority, even if that number didn't entirely go all to Obama (Michigan being the reason) they were still votes against Hillary. So does this not show he has the lead in the popular vote, delegates, and supers. Hillary all you are doing is frustrating me, especially when you still believe you have a right to win. What is your reasoning now? That you will get the lower-educated white vote and Obama won't so he'll loose the White house. Yes there is racism in America, but people don't be so gullible, I strongly feel, that there are less racists than that, and if it is a decision between Obama & McBush, Obama will win.

Remind me not to play poker with HRC,…. because somehow, in her mind, her pair of deuces would beat my triple aces, or it would be three months before we could move on to the next hand.

Her commitment to making sure every vote counts is such a thinly veiled attempt to set herself up for 2012, regardless of what damage it does to the democratic campaign this cycle. She is self serving, manipulative, and so insincere, I can't believe she is holding the party hostage like this.

Fortunately in this case, the righteous will prevail.

Keep it real people, the only reason Clinton is pushing those states is because she got a majority of votes there. She is so disingenuous. She would not be pushing if she had not won.

Talk about fairness, what about those who stayed home because they were told it would not count? Don't we want to be fair to those people.

The DNC should grow a pair and stick to the rules!

I like your post Shelly.

IMO, hillary's 'girls' on here and other blogs have some issues with either past or present personal relationships. They all talk about Obama in a personal tense, faulting him for various personal attributes, none of them know him personally yet condemn, which is what? Personal issues being blamed on someone that can remain calm, rational and collected when they cannot. Strong men intimidate them and they don't like it.

Black Republican, New York, New York   May 21st, 2008 7:46 pm ET

for all you Hillaryites who read but do not easily comprehend, please read this extract from the above story:

"Obama now appears likely to finish the primary season with a delegate lead, including superdelegates, that WOULD NOT DISAPPEAR if both states’ delegations are seated based on the results of January’s contests, in which his name did not appear on the ballot in Michigan. "

Even if Hillary gets the delegates she won in Florida and Michigan and Obama gets the rest, she still won't overtake Obama!

So what exactly is she fighting for? No wonder Bill cheated so many times! The woman is disagreeable!!!!!

Robert   May 21st, 2008 7:46 pm ET

Really I Mean Really   May 21st, 2008 7:46 pm ET

Well it looks like we are about to teach our kids what it means to break the rules and get what you want. Hillary Clinton has taken this party to a new low it seems as though we have taken a step back in History were some White Americans still have hatred towards Black People the only thing that West Virgina & kentucky showed us was that some peple need to venture out side of there neighborhood and see the world we live in today. The good old days are gone and they are never coming back.

No Matter how how you spin it these two states broke the rules and moved their primary ahead of the scheduled states they were told if you move your date you will be punished and tyhey did it anyway. I don't fault Florida to much because it was a Repubilcan Governer how moved up their date know that the DNC told them not too. So really Obama & Clinton are not to blame it was the Republicans just like 2000 all over again.

Remember their were rules established and they were broken

TURNABOUT IS FAIR PLAY   May 21st, 2008 7:46 pm ET

Don't do it Obama! She wouldn't do it for you if the tables were turned! She's not worthy and it's not fair for her to move the finish line every time the numbers don't work in her favor. The facts are
The voters in FL and MI knew their votes wouldn't count BEFORE they voted.

Hillarious knew that their votes wouldn't count BEFORE they voted.

The DNC stripped both states of their delegates BEFORE they voted,

and Hillarious SIGNED ON THE DOTTED LINE TO NOT HAVE EITHER STATES' VOTES COUNT BEFORE FL AND MI VOTED.

So, there's no "cooling off" period on this one; HILLARIOUS HAS RESULTED TO THE "BAIT AND SWITCH" TACTICS WOMEN GET ALL THE TIME FROM UNSCRUPULOUS CAR DEALERS AND REPAIR PERSONS…Oh the Irony in this one!

The facts are the facts and they are IN WRITING - HILLARIOUS' WRITING and OBAMA's WRITING! So for all of your people who say if Hillarious is not the Pres. nominee they will vote for Mc Go Get Your Cain, just imagine if Hillarious tried to change the rules of peace treaties, or played the "sexist" card with middle eastern countries, or better yet, what if sanctionions are necessary to impose on a country then when they meet all of the requirements fair and square, she changes them!
IS THIS THE LEADERSHIP YOU REALLY WANT? IS THIS WHAT AMERICA WANTS FOR IT'S FUTURE??? I THINK NOT.

Get real people! It's time to unite the democratic party and I hope that the SDs are seriously considering the ramifications of what Hillarious is doing to this party and to this country's future. It's time for the SDs to act… We, the people know that you did not want to be the deciding factor in this race, but this scorched earth campaign has gone on too long and every single one of you SDs know it. Now…is the time; make the RIGHT choice NOW. It is your commercial hitting the airwaves proclaiming " UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL" Now it's time to UNITE, both pledged and SDs…We have done our part, now do yours!

David from SC   May 21st, 2008 7:45 pm ET

It is all Senator Obama's fault! He forced Florida and Michigan change their primary election dates. Then, he made the DNC disqualify the two states' primary elections. After, he forced all eight Democratic Party Presidential Candidates to sign an agreement that they will not campaign in Florida or Michigan; and not accept any delegates from those states. To make matters worst, he made both of those states' congresses vote not to hold re-elections. Next, he made them come up with compromise delegate seating that favored Senator Clinton. The worst part is that he made Senator Clinton reject those offers.

Lesson here: Never trust a black man to be honest about his words or intentions. He will make the government members do all sorts of things that they do not want to do; and he is going to pretend not to do anything. I don't know why so many Americans are duped into believing that honesty, integrity, trustworthiness, straightforwardness, transparency, fairness, and openness are the kinds of characteristics we want in a President. Senator Obama has too much of these things and that makes him a poor choice to be President.

What we need is a lying, cheating, sneaky, deceiving, hiding, under-handed, unfair, divisive, and secretive person to become President of the USA.

Now that I am not going to vote for Senator Obama because he is too honest, I will vote for Senator Clinton because of all her President-like characteristics.

So…count the Florida ballots and face a law suit by those who did not vote because they were told it would not vote.

Count the Michigan votes but not the "uncommitted" and blame Obama because he took his name off the ballot because he was following DNC rules that she agreed to.Isn't it communist countries that do only put one candidate on the ballot?

Don't count the caucus voters even when she is the one "taking up the torch" for the disenfranchised.

Change the rules to whatever makes her win! If not the "supporters" will vote for McCain who has not one woman in contention for VP, and heads a party that can not attract minority groups.

I was part of the civil rights movement and a supporter of women's rights and this woman is going against almost everything we fought against.

This is not democratic and the superdelegates have to stand up and end this thing and people who care about this country have to start speaking up for what is right and goos!

The thing that bothers me about Mi. & Fl. is that she signed a pledge not to count these states. Thats never brought up on the talk shows. One of advisers, Mr. Ickes (as a memeber of DNC Rules Committee) voted to strip the two states. Now that she needs them she wants to change the rules. I would ask the people of Mi & Fl. to ask her if she felt your states are so important why did she sign the pledge. Also what do you do the next time a state wants to move up its primary.

Dal CA   May 21st, 2008 7:42 pm ET

The Senator from PUNJAB will fight like the Punjabis do. No quarter given and take everything for themselves.

Nah!   May 21st, 2008 7:42 pm ET

The question I have is "Why are these two states an issue?" They broke the rules they helped write. They should pay for it. Hillary agreed that they should not be included until she was behind, and has now changed her tune. On the other hand, Hillary wants to discount the caucus states because somehow they aren't valid elections in her mind. Huh? Weird. So, Hillary has this interesting logic where states that will help her should be included, and those that Obama won should not be included…. I admit I can't follow this logic.

OK. Well, let's say we do it Hillary's way. Hillary still can't win. Why would she push so hard? Because she wants to win in the popular vote. The problem is that the popular vote does not nominate a candidate. The delegates do. I'm guessing next Hillary is going to want the rules changed so that the popular vote is the way the nomination gets accomplished.

I understand that Hillary is doing anything she can to win the nomination. She should be commended for her tenacity. Where it gets weird is that she wants all these rules changes so that things go her way. As president, she won't get to ask for these "do overs". What will she do then? It won't be pretty for her. She'll quickly get isolated by those that disagree with her, both nationally and internationally, and she may very well become the second worst president in US history.

Jess   May 21st, 2008 7:42 pm ET

I am watching Lou Dobbs right now and cannot believe what I'm seeing. Lou just read two emails from his viewers regarding the Florida and Michigan primaries and both the comments are surprisingly (!) pro-Clinton. Really, Lou? You never receive any anti-Clinton emails? Or is it that you are simply not inclined to read any email with which you do not agree or air any comment that does not serve your own personal political agenda?
It is so glaringly evident that you support Hillary Clinton that I cannot rely on you for unbiased news or views.
As for Michigan and Florida, did Hillary Clinton not agree to the rules before the results of those primaries came in? Why the sudden hysterical desire to count those states?
Isn't Clinton the person who was all about the *big* states like CA & NY, isn't she the one who implied smaller states don't matter? Only now when she needs smaller states like WV & KY, has she changed her mind. Is there anything she will not do or say to get this nomination? AND is there anything you will not do or say to make sure your broadcast is as pro-Clinton as possible?
Seriously, Lou?

Mai   May 21st, 2008 7:42 pm ET

Senator Clinton needs to be very, very careful about the liar Senator Obama. He will and do anything to win this election. His whole campaign has been about dishonesty. Don't let you guard down, Senator Clinton.
Remember he is the same man who said he did not know his mentor and pastor was a hate spewing racist. He is the same man who said he only knew Tony Rezko from 5 1/2 hours of legal work.
Yes, every vote needs to be counted as it was voted. Nothing less should prevail. The votes of FL and MI could have been settled months ago if Obama had wanted to play fair.

In the best interest of the Democratic Party and its prospects in November, Senators Clinton and Obama should work this out. It is critical that Michigan and Florida play a role at the convention and that Democrats residing in these key swing states become energized. The party and candidates are foolish to lose their last best chance at avoiding disaster here. If the DEM nominee loses Fla. and Mich, the GOP will take the White House in all likelihood.

The difficulty is that the issue is no longer delegates, and that's why Mr. Axlerod is willing to deal on delegates at this late stage after Team Obama blocked the issue for weeks and weeks. The issue is popular vote totals. Senator Clinton wants to count her Florida popular votes since they were cast on a level playing field with Mr. Obama on the ballot. Michigan is just a headache to sort out. But, get it done folks!!

noemi in los angeles   May 21st, 2008 7:42 pm ET

If Hillary can break the rules in FL and MI by including their votes AFTER all agreeing that they would NOT count………. then maybe they can break the rules for California too and do a re-vote… because Obama would surely win for sure!!! Oh wait, she already wont THAT state, why do a re-vote?? She could care less about the votes in MI and FL is she had lost them…… she's only wanting to "count" them because she wants to win, not because of the vote. If she REALLY want to "could every single vote" she would not be excluding the caucuses from being counted!!!

MBFLA   May 21st, 2008 7:42 pm ET

Wake up Shane! Obama was not on the ballot in Michigan and we were told our votes would not count towards delegates in Florida. BOTH Clinton and Obama agreed to the same rules but now Hillary wants to change them.

The DNC has to resolve this, not the candidates. Let's not destroy the party, shall we?

truth now   May 21st, 2008 7:42 pm ET

Sharon in Minnesota, unlike Hillary Obama is able to raise money without Mich. or Fl. Before Feb 5th Hillary didn't give a flying f—— if those states were seated. Now that she has (get this straight) lost, she wants to seat them to try and steal the election. If she was so caring for the people in those states, she would have protested from the start. I don't blame Obama one bit for not counting them. They did not follow the rules and should be punished.

I hear people from Fl. saying " it was the Republican Gov., but what's the excuse for Michagan. Her friend the Gov. wanted to crown her with a win in Feb. too bad it didn't work. Now they want to change the rules when everything has been settled. I say hell to the nooooo!

Lynnette   May 21st, 2008 7:41 pm ET

I have to give it to Obama. Let's see what Clinton does now and if she is cordial and gracious enough to meet halfway. I bet my last dollar that she's not. It's just not in her nature.

At least he's willing to make a deal - not Clinton she wants it all even though the states of Florida and Michigan screwed their own voters with the bogus primaries.

To Sharon Minnesota: SHUT UP!

Once more, OBAMA the accommodating consensus builder, ready to sit and talk, not only to Iran but even to those trying to steal the nomination from him.

Mrs Clinton wants to be President. Meanwhile, she wants to change the rules she agreed to, in order to win and be seen as champion of the states of Florida and Michigan. She has twisted the truth so much so often that it is now looking worse than a twister. Her math is pathetic and arbitrary. She has her campaign in debt, obviously because of poor management. What will she make of America?

Mike   May 21st, 2008 7:39 pm ET

It would be a bit easier to accept Senator Clinton's arguments to seat Florida if she was forthright about why she is pushing for it. Using the argument that "they deserve to have their votes counted" rings hollow when we all know the real reason she wants them counted is because she arguably "won" those primaries.

Lost in the discussion are those who didn't vote because they knew it wasn't going to count, or those who couldn't vote for Obama because he wasn't on the Michigan ballot. Also lost in the discussion is the fact that in those places where neither campaigned, the stronger name brand (Clinton) naturally pulled through votes. Time after time during the primary season, as voters in states where Clinton had commanding early leads, learned more about the other candidates (Obama in particular), Senator Clinton's lead evaporated. The fact that neither candidate campaigned in Florida or Michigan renders any voting in those states suspect. Though many voters did indeed cast ballots, but they were denied the opportunity to make informed decisions based on full exposure to these candidates.

As much as I respect Sentor Clinton's positions and record, I squirm each time I hear her make the blatantly self-serving arguments about how "the voters from Michigan and Florida deserve to be heard". Is there any doubt what she would be saying if the results in those states went the other way?

Taking a "principled" position because it is convenient is a dangerous way to try to to earn respect.

It is really to bad Hillary Clinton is such a selfish woman.. Hillary is not fighting for Americans or for FL & MI.. Hillary is "fighting: only for Hillary…

It won't matter how much Barack Obama gives to her it will NEVER be ENOUGH.. Not only is Hillary is greedy that way.. BUT… she also has tried in every disgusting way change the race and rules which she agreed too.

Hillary will not compromise because it is not in her nature. Hillary is going to destroy the nomination process as well as Hillary will take anybody down with her including our votes…..

While she screams for FL & MI she discounts the rest of American voters..

I did not vote for her and I will never vote for Hillary even for the sake of the democratic race.. I ethically cannot vote for her and her ethics or her lack of…

I am willing to suffer under McBush and hope for a better candidate next cycle.

Hillary's campaign is in debt and she will run a country with debt.. She is selfish and unreliable for the party..

What happens to Michigan where only Hillary's name was on the ballot papers? You cannot claim to vote where there's no contest….only one person contested!
In anyway it is done, Dems need to take that State in November.

J Lee   May 21st, 2008 7:39 pm ET

This is SO not fun anymore.

There is something sick about Hillary Clinton's inability to let go. What do you think her motivation is, really?

Does she stand for the dignity of women when she stays with a man who would humiliate her and trash the sanctity of their marriage in front of the whole world?

I don't know what to think of this woman anymore.

Daniel, Loganville Ga   May 21st, 2008 7:39 pm ET

SHAME on Sen CLinton for letting this get this bad. If the tables were turned the DNC and the Clintons would have demanded Sen. Obama get out a long time ago. SHAME we started this primary season on such a high note.

Bitter Sweetie Hussein   May 21st, 2008 7:38 pm ET

I am an Obama supporter, and I do believe there should be an equitable compromise in seating Fl & MI. The bottom line here is the rules were broken. There has to be consequences for that. While it's not the voters' fault, neither is it Sen. Obama's fault. But you would think HE was the one who broke the rules! I say watch out for Hilary. She is unscrupulous and not to be trusted! Don't let her and her underhandedness wrest away your nomination chances.

rw   May 21st, 2008 7:37 pm ET

How sickening!

America is so hypocritical it is unreal. Bottom line those two states broke the rules causing their people the risk of losing their votes. Stop blaming Obama for something MI and FL leaders did. The man went by their rules including Hillary until she realized she was losing. It is just sad that people like your kind still exist. Woman or man rules are rules. That's why this country is screwed up; people want to make their own rules, break rules, stifle rules to appease themselves, etc.

Stop HATING, how will our children ever learn anything if we are acting like a bunch untrained adults. This is just pathetic; it is embarrasing to know that we are adults that can't even make decisions on the right basis. If Hillary was winning she could care less if these votes counted or not. She didn't start fighting for them until she realized that she was losing. Hillary supporters be true to yourselves you know Hillary is not only being hypocritical but has shown that she has been hiding under the cover concerning racism.

I never thought that I would ever feel this way about anyone. But I once highly respected Hillary and thought of her as a great example for all women. But she has failed us; at least the ones who believe in integrity, honesty, and respect.

No More Bushies   May 21st, 2008 7:37 pm ET

When I think of the Clinton supporters that rant on these boards I imagine banjo music and white hoods. If nothing else, Obama's success demonstrates that at long last we as a society may be ready to move beyond the issues of race.

bill s   May 21st, 2008 7:37 pm ET

I think the delegates should be slit 50-50 after all the two states
did break the rules and there is no way they should not go unpunished. The rules are the rules. If we the people allow
any group or indiviauls to change the rules in the middle of
the game are only showing our children and other people in the world that we cannot be trusted. Without rules and regulations
this world would be in CHAOS.

Karen P   May 21st, 2008 7:37 pm ET

They (candidates) ALL agreed on the rules from the start. Period.

Hillary wasn't concerned until she lost Iowa and South Carolina, THEN she was concerned.

Hillary was playing with fire when she left her name on Michigan's ballot KNOWING she was going to use this if she wasn't winning.

She used EVERY disgusting tactic…VERY unbecoming of a president…more like a spoiled brat. Hillary is SO unpresidential.

Hillary is damaging the party and she doesn't care at all and McCain would use THAT against her…her divisiveness. Her scorched earth policy.

Then there's that Paul v Clinton case that she doesn't have to testify on until AFTER November. Why after elections?

Michael - Sacramento, CA   May 21st, 2008 7:36 pm ET

Addressing DGH's comment:

Your complaint is ridiculous. This is an election CAMPAIGN. Every candidate is trying to win and if Obama can "attack" while he, in your words, "says something with a smile, a casual, slow drawl, leaning back on a stool with his hands in his pockets, as if we're all buddies at a local barbeque," then isn't that a huge improvement over the current norm in US politics? I think we've all seen that Obama is capable of going on the offense while remaining polite. You apparently think that he's a hypocrite if he goes on the offense at all. Yes, he said he was going to try to take the high road in his campaign–I don't remember him EVER saying he'd never attack.

Incidentally, when exactly did he name Ronald Reagan his idol? I must have missed that and you didn't cite your source.

Joyce in Florida   May 21st, 2008 7:36 pm ET

The delegates should be counted IN FULL from the January 29th primary. That is the only fair compromise that Senator Obama should make. We voted and we made our choice. If the situation were reversed, Senator Obama would want the delegates counted in full from the results. Stop making compromises and award the results fair and square. Senator Obama is the ONLY one who has held up this process. If he wants Florida and Michigan on his side in November, he should step aside and let ALL THE VOTES BE COUNTED. If he means what he says, he would do this without hesitation. Come on already, Senator Obama, let's get this done so we can continue without any more roadblocks. Florida has spoken. HILLARY CLINTON FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!

eddie p. rochester ny   May 21st, 2008 7:34 pm ET

If Obama is willing to go more than half-way on Fla. and Mi. maybe he should consider going at least half-way on the votes cast in the caucus states. Let's face it . If all states had open primaries rather than caucuses, Hillary would have left Obama in the dust months ago. The polls clearly show that Hillary has a better shot at beating McCain, and still the superdelegates are supporting Obama. Apparantely the Democratic party leaders are willing to lose the general election , rather than have a female for president.

Lucy   May 21st, 2008 7:34 pm ET

If Obama is GIVEN this nomination by the DNC, I will surely vote for McCain as millions of others will. Apparently voting in the U.S. doesn't really count anyway if the DNC doesn't give Hillary Florida and Michigan that she deserves.

Tyler   May 21st, 2008 7:34 pm ET

Shane read it again, he is willing to give up more delegates than splitting it 50/50.

Carl   May 21st, 2008 7:34 pm ET

Like she really cares. Did we hear any of this talk when she was thinking she would be the nominee, NO!! She is just a politician being political. The elections in Florida and Michigan were not fair and should not and can not be counted. Splitting the delegates does nothing except create an illusion of fairness - which is absurd!

But whatever, I'm tired of this mess and tired of listening to all this whining.

Guy   May 21st, 2008 7:34 pm ET

She has to follow rules and DNC Laws. There are some suggestion to offer a spot on the US Supreme Court is ridiculous. If she can"t follow the laws here I can image what she will do on the Supreme Court. She has no qualifications. There is only one alternative 50-50 on delegate votes and popular votes other than that Mi & Fla votes will not count. The simple fact is that next election other states will do the same, cause they can and know that there vote will count. They can vote in the General election

LD - DNC....Please End This NOW!!   May 21st, 2008 7:34 pm ET

Democratic supporters (even HRC supporters, if you are really wanting to call yourselves Democrats). I urge you to send a strong message to the DNC requesting fair play in this process. We all know the antics of Hillary Rodham Clinton and how she will do and say ANYTHING to become President. She has repeatedly lied about NAFTA (her claim for those rural, blue-collar workers votes) and her divisive tactics. She is now requesting both Florida and Michigan votes to be counted, knowing that these states broke the rules, which she agreed to from the beginning. BTW she also bragged about how supedelegates should exercise independent judgement (of course, when she thought they all would vote for her), a strategic plan that has now backfired on her!! I believe these superdelegates have now switched to Obama for this very reason….Robert, Reich, Bill Richardson, the list continues to grow!! Personally, I would like to see a woman as President, NOT HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON!!

John Smith   May 21st, 2008 7:33 pm ET

Experience, experience! Is the type of experience that Hillary is now showing regarding FL and MI what the Democrats really want for this nation? This woman is a "shame" and disgrace to women; I would not want any of my daughters to ever read about Hillary! I am now over 50 years plus and have closely followed the public lives of the Clintons.

Marie   May 21st, 2008 7:33 pm ET

HRC agreed with all the candidates and DNC not to count the votes of FL & MI, but as with everything else she have said and done, she did not mean it at all. She will not be happy until she have her way. I listen to her speech today and thought if this lady becomes president she will still be flip-floping to her heart content.

There were a time when I would have voted for her but watching her these past months have really changed my mind about her. At first it was great to have a woman run for the high office in the land, but she have made a mockery out of now.

I also feel that if she do not get what she want on May 31, she will be announcing that she is going to run independent with the excuse that the women and the white uneducated people do not want her to quick.

People really need to listen to her words and when she have slip of the tongue as she calls it, who is she really running for office for. I do not think it is much for the people of US but for herself.

TonyNJ   May 21st, 2008 7:33 pm ET

Last night before going to sleep, the news broadcasters on both the T.V. and radio, made no mention whatsoever that our nation was not a Democracy anymore. When I woke up this morning and looked out my window, Old Glory, the flag which many have given their lives to keep our country a Democracy, was still flying in the gentle but steady wind. Then I read and hear that the primary votes from the good people of Florida are being withheld from our Democracies Presidential total? Did someone mislay them, and cannot now be found? Did the bags containing these precious votes, somehow became unsecured, with the contents being scattered to the winds? Did a thief break and enter the room where these important votes were being stored, only to vanish into the dark of night? Did the Good citizens of Florida forget to pay their taxes, with their votes being held as some horrible form of collateral? Nope, none of the above. The good people of Florida voted, some traveling great distances to do their duty as Great Americans, only to hear that their votes will not be counted. This country is a Democracy. The voting process goes back to the ancient Greece, birthplace of Democracy. In order for our nation to remain a Democracy, the votes of the citizens of Florida and Michigan must be counted. Hillary Clinton has taken up the cause to see that the votes of the good citizens of Florida and Michigan be counted. Do the math and look around. I did not know of any previous attempts on the part of Mr. Obama to take action so the votes of all Americans be in the final count. Only one candidate, Hillary Clinton has taken up the cause to see that all votes are counted, so our nation remains a Democracy! We are with you Hillary! We have not forgotten that our Nation is a Democracy, and the INERTIA and Failure of others to do so is a stain on Our Nations Honor

Its a shame! I mean a big shame to HRC.When she was untop on the overall votes.I mean the pledge and super delegate votes and the FL & MI were not sanctioned of their votes, she was all smiles and very ok with it.But why now that the most prominent candidate, one whom i pronouce "One in a life time Leader" is right on track, hillary eventually turned into a monster trying to change the rules that was levelled even before the primaries and cacauses begins. It has finally shows how desperate she is,how desperate she aims at destroying america further more.I just imagine sometimes how sliky and fake she is.Obama,u are a God sent leader. In God we trust….God has finally sent you out to revive America.Lead on Obama…God bless you

Texas Democrat   May 21st, 2008 7:32 pm ET

Lana,

The rules for choosing a nominee continue to change, continue to become more democratic (McGovern-Fraiser reforms, anyone?).

What could be more fair than a primary contest where each vote, from whatever state, is counted equally.

Caucuses benefit an intense minority and the well to do who have the time and the luxury to go to party meetings. And disfranching entire states? What about cementing the choicest spots to two states that are unrepresentative of the entire country? Serious reforms are needed. But do we have to wait till the end of an election to right these wrongs? No. Superdelegates do what you're here for.

This woman represents the height of greed and ambition, in my opinion. She is willing to destroy Obama so she can run again in 2012. I can't see any other reason why she would be going through all this madness. There can't possibly be a way she will be the nominee.

Someone tell the ridiculously stupid 'White blue collar voters' to stop voting for this racist woman.

linda-Texas   May 21st, 2008 7:32 pm ET

Senator Obama was adamantly opposed to re-votes, but now he is willing to "compromise". Votes are not a commodity subject to negotiation. Each of those votes represents the preference of an individual. They all deserve to have their votes count as they were cast.

MonaP   May 21st, 2008 7:31 pm ET

I feel just as much sorrow for those who won't vote for a person because she is a woman. Just because you're not voting for Obama doesn't mean you're a racist - based on that premise those not voting for Clinton are sexists.

It comes down to experience and judgement - we really do not need another President who learns on the job - look what happened the past 8 years.

I'm a Clinton supporter - I'm not in a frenzy, I'm not uneducated, I'm not a racist - I weighed my options and in my opinion, as an American who loves her country - I'm supporting Senator Clinton and could never vote for Barack Obama - he's too inexperienced, shows a lack of judgement and has no plans for this supposed change coming to our country.

Keith R.   May 21st, 2008 7:31 pm ET

"Why did Obama block the revote"

You guys give Obama a lot of credit. His campaign simply pointed out that there wasn't enough legislative support for it in Michigan and that in Florida, it was cost prohibitive.

When the cost issue was addressed, by a private voluntary donation if it were to happen, it was done by a direct threat to the DNC by a pro Clinton supporter. There's bias at it's best.

Obama didn't block the vote or revote.

You Obama haters will latch on to anything, even misinformation, it seems.

Look in to real news, not Clinton rhetoric if you want answers.

This is a set up, if Hillary had a problem with the rule, why did she not speak up at the time DNC made the ruling. Florida and Michigan's elected officials are responsible for this mess and DNC should not change the rule.

If this election is given to Hillary them we know what kind of country we live, this would be a Shame Before GOD. If a person will steal they will lie and she has proven this to be true because she's done both.

DNC if this nomination is given to Hillary dont believe the polls who say a large percent will of the population will vote for Hillary, because there will be a big surprise at the polls and you can take that to the bank….

This is a test of Obama's diplomacy. Diplomacy involves willingness to accept compromise, while not disadvantaging yourself. I hope the Obama campaign resolves this 50-50 or NO DEAL. Let the voters decide in November. We are a nation of rules, and we must obey our rules if we are ever to be taken seriously.

ALL I can say is Hill…..it's OVAH. Do yourself a favor and go away better yet go gather up all of the conservative Dems in WV and Kentucky and explain how Barrack is not a racist and how he only wants to bring America together. America looks like a melting pot but I guess WV and good Ole Kentucky don't get it yet!!

Your are bringing the party down. Step aside and dont be a sorry loser, I will even vote for you in 2016, as long as you play fair!!!

OBAMA 08-16

Paul   May 21st, 2008 7:29 pm ET

both Obama AND Clinton agreed, and signed, a statement saying neither state should bd acknowledged in this election because they broke the rules..

Unlike the 48 other U.S. states who were content to oblige by
the rules set out by the DNC.

It would not be very democratic if FL and MI were included!!

Debby   May 21st, 2008 7:28 pm ET

I wonder if he got some slack today in Florida thats why they are doing this. hmmmmmmmm

James   May 21st, 2008 7:28 pm ET

As an independent in Florida, I chose not to register as a democrat to vote in the primary because it was not going to count under the rules. I did however vote that day because there was a significant property tax amendment on the ballot. The voter turnout in Florida was not historic because of the primaries but largely because of the constitutional amendment on the ballot. My vote counted that day as did everyone who voted that day on the amendment to reduce their property taxes. This dynamic has not been accounted for in any discussion on the issue.

Campaign Strategist from 115th St & Amsterdam Ave.   May 21st, 2008 7:28 pm ET

It's no secret that the actual election from Michigan and FLorida results are flawed for a number of reasons.

This is a American … not Bosnia … our code of ethics and integrity don't honor election results that are tainted in any way.

Let all 50 states' delegates be seated in Denver …. translation …. let them all vote on the Democratic Party Platform.

Let those primaries held lawfully, contribute to the selection of the nominee.

This preserves representation for Michigan and Florida while giving credence to the nominating process per the pre-agreed upon rules.

DEAL -or No DEAL?

Tony   May 21st, 2008 7:27 pm ET

THE DNC MADE THE RULES NOT OBAMA
Its true there is an education gap between Obama and Clinton supporters but why something this simple is so hard to understand? Thats a question directed to the Clinton supporters.

teesha   May 21st, 2008 7:27 pm ET

Please don't gave her one inch, I don't trust her at all. By the way she is trying to escape a trial schedule in november Paul vs Clinton…

carlo   May 21st, 2008 7:27 pm ET

THIS IS NOT OBAMA'S FAULT! Michigan proposed a compromise and Clinton opposed it! Didn't know that, did you? I hear people saying that Obama fought a re-vote in Michigan. He didn't fight a re-vote. He fought a re-vote privately funded by Clinton supporters. No candidate would agree to that. Obama has been very gracious to Hillary, which is now more evident when you see how he is slamming McCain. He's supposed to slam McCain-he's the opposition.

As far as Florida and Michigan getting 1/2 delegates, that's what the RNC gave them! No one is complaining about that, though. Stop blaming Obama and blame those trifling politicians in Florida and Michigan, and Harold Ickes, who sit on the by-laws committee.

since when America has become dynasty Clinton/Bush pleas wake up

Tammy From New York   May 21st, 2008 7:27 pm ET

Hillary just don't know what she is doing to herself. When does she run for senate again? I'm from New YOrk and she definately will not have my vote.

FactCheck   May 21st, 2008 7:26 pm ET

So, let me get this straight… the folks who are supporting Obama in Michigan will get no say because HRC wants that state to give Obama zero delegates because his name wasn't on the ballot? And the Clinton supporters are asking why not?? Heck, why not just give her all the delegates in every state… who care what those silly voters have to say anyway? SNL has absolutely nailed her "I deserve it" agenda.

Sandy   May 21st, 2008 7:26 pm ET

I'M SO TIRED OF THIS…OBAMA, DO YOUR THING AND DO IT WELL. SPOILED PEOPLE ALWAYS TRY MANIPULATE OTHERS INCLUDING HILLARY THE DESPERATE. OBAMA SUPPORTERS DON'T GIVE UP HOPE FOR CHANGE, JUST CLAIM IT!

Ramon, Santa Clara, CA   May 21st, 2008 7:26 pm ET

Uh oh!

Has the Obama campaign finally figured out that they have alienated two states that will be critical in the November election? (In addition to the way the Obama elites have just alienated the "backwoods, racist, redneck, uneducated" states that just voted overwhelmingly for Clinton)

This half-hearted, and late realization will be part of Obama's downfall when McCain wins both states and the presidency.

Peter   May 21st, 2008 7:25 pm ET

To Sharon.
Hillary does not care about you or your comments trust me, and she knew the rules from the start, she is a donkey and can't win either way!!
So vote for McSame and I hope there will be a draft to send your loved ones to war because with Mcsame we will have a war with a lot of countries and not win. So with that in mind get ready, if you are lucky enough to move.

Someone send if Obama wins get ready for a bad 4 years, are you dumb, did you not just see the last 8 years moron.

IF, Lisbon   May 21st, 2008 7:25 pm ET

Shane,
Michigan and Florida are part of the USA, that's why they should have followed the rules that applied to all the other states.

This means Michigan and Florida will be rewarded for having broken the rules. They broke them so they should go first, thinking it would matter. Now they're going last and that's why Hillary suddenly discovered they might matter.

Should those two states be allowed to flaunt the rules that applied to the other states? I think not. Precisely because they are part of the United States and not two break-away rogue states.

Bridget   May 21st, 2008 7:25 pm ET

No to compromise. Florida and Michigan went out and voted for Hillary because she cared enough to leave her name on the ballot. The votes belong to her. She is ahead in the popular vote.
So guys, stop holding up those cards with those incorrect math figures, You all might wish this was all over but it is not. Looks like we will be going to the convention. Never under estimate the power of a woman.

BIFF, BIFFINGTON...   May 21st, 2008 7:24 pm ET

I just realized that Hillary is ALSO running on a CHANGE platform:

CHANGE the rules
CHANGE the process
CHANGE the numbers
CHANGE the metrics
CHANGE the goalposts

…… I think you see where I'm headed here…….

LonghornMama   May 21st, 2008 7:24 pm ET

Hillary Clinton deserves a spot on this ticket. Obama supporters and the media need to stop trying to push her out. Instead focus on the fact that Obama only becomes President if Clinton's on the ticket!! All of those states that he has won in caucuses, etc, will still be RED after November. Time to go after the combination that can put together an electoral college victory. That's Obama-Clinton.

Larry for obama   May 21st, 2008 7:24 pm ET

Why does Hillary keep getting away with this crap. if this was Obama acting in this way, there would be a national outcry about him destroying the party and he's sexist and he doesn't know when to quit, etc, etc, etc.

Hillary lost fair and square. Settle up

Ann   May 21st, 2008 7:24 pm ET

Obama is so smooth, he's even got his supporters fooled. Can't wait to see their faces if he does get the nomination… and this country goes under because they were so determined to have him and his "change". Funny….that is all his supporters and him say…we want change, but they never say what that is! Because everything he talks on is what he's already heard Hillary talk about. Since the majority of his supporters say they would vote for Hillary if he's not the nominee just further supports the reasoning that she IS more electable because most of her supporters will NEVER vote for him. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

Cecilia in Georgia   May 21st, 2008 7:24 pm ET

My issue is why wasn't this a big issue when she agreed to this in the start of the campaign? Why is she now pressing this issue now that she is getting beat by Obama? It just doesn't make sense and makes her look like a true sore loser. This should have been addressed the DAY THEY VOTED or BEFORE not AFTER WE ARE MONTHS AWAY FROM VOTING IN NOVEMBER?!!

Respect for her has vanished…

sandy   May 21st, 2008 7:24 pm ET

Hillays plan to revote michigan included voting for only those who voted uncommited in january election.

No person with IQ over 100 could agree to this ridiculous plan..and now she goes around saying obama blocked revote…

disgusting is a very small word!!!!

Drew, Central FL   May 21st, 2008 7:24 pm ET

As a Floridian, I would prefere a do-over. Let them campaign in the state. Hillary can say whatever she wants and I will still VOTE OBAMA!!!!

Good day. I said Good Day!

Florida and Michigan broke the DNC rules. These states don't count. WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER 48 STATES THAT FOLLOWED THE RULES???

Bushwhacked in Eugene, OR   May 21st, 2008 7:23 pm ET

Yep — the man is taking the high road, as I would expect him to do. THIS is what we need in a leader — and just one reason he will take this country back to its position of respect worldwide.

MD in CT   May 21st, 2008 7:22 pm ET

It should be remembered that when the DNC made the decision not to count Florida or MIchigan, Obama appears not to have been a factor. At that time the DNC was under the political influence of the Clintons more than an other candidate. If all the candidates agreed to follow the DNC ruling, then this should be documented and presented to the voters. If any candidate broke the rules then this should be determined and made public. This is true for Obama as well as Clinton.

Once that is clarified, then a meaningful compromise can be develop. Otherwise the residual emotion concerning blame over the initial decision would leave unpredictable residuals.

However Hillary Clinton talks now like she is blameless or did nothing wrong and suggest that Obama is stopping Florida and Michigan from being seated at the convention. The voters need clarification NOW NOT 2 WEEKS FROM NOW.

nick   May 21st, 2008 7:21 pm ET

GO CLINTON!!!! Wow, Obama, can not face the fact she is the only one whom can defeat McCain, T
