Bill Clinton says Chelsea may go into politics someday.

(CNN) — Is politics in Chelsea Clinton's future?

Bill Clinton says maybe.

In an interview with People Magazine, the former president said he thinks his daughter is a natural campaigner who may one day follow her parents into the family business.

"If you asked me [whether Chelsea would go into politics] before Iowa, I would have said, 'No way. She is too allergic to anything we do.' But she is really good at it," the former president said in the latest edition of the magazine

Clinton also said Chelsea was deeply upset by her mother's disappointing third-place finish in Iowa in January.

"It all changed after Iowa," he said. "She realized her mother lost Iowa 100 percent because of younger voters. She was upset, bawled, went to her employer and said, 'Look, you got to let me go or give me an indefinite leave of absence. I'm not letting my mother go down like this.' "

With all respect.
I think the Clinton's family are in great need of psychological help.
Megalomenia is killing them…and this country.

The more we learned about them the more they remind me of the Ceausescu family in Romania…or even better, Juan Domingo and Evita Peron in Argentina.

I have made these comments without any political overtones. But I am concerned that just one family can manipulate a whole country…the most powerful and socially evolved country in the world. Let's be vigilant; this is dangerous.

Jim   May 22nd, 2008 10:33 am ET

from the comments, sexism is alive and well - many from obama fans… hmmm….

Go Gurl   May 22nd, 2008 10:32 am ET

I'm a Clinton supporter, wheather she follows her parents foot steps or not it don't matter, when people decide who they want to rep them it's not who she knows or where she comes from, it's all about what she brings to the table. If she got what it takes, I don't mind to see her run fo the office and we will decide. I see a lot of hate towards Obama from Clinton supporters, we Clinto supporters have this social meeting as a hobby but not ever once discussed the haterd of Obama, we simply discuss issues that matter to us as DEM's… so that got me wondered, is all this hate towards Obama coming from DEM's or Republicans who playing a hate game with us so they can improve their odds in novemeber???

p.s. my fellow DEM's time to stop being emotional and think with our heads, cause the way I see it Repulicans think we are stupid and fall for their trap once again.

Good luck to us all, at the end I just want to see Clinton or Obama in the office cause of two reasons…one, they are DEM's and most importantly two, they both have almost the same policies that will take us out of this difficulties that we are in because of Republicans.

PS- Jan, you think it's over the top for Americans to choose the vehicles they want to purchase and drive? No vacations either? We must really be a spoiled bunch.

God has visited the Clinton family to produce one of the best political machine in the history of american politics. Yet the child of the clinton family is prepared from the childhood to take one the world's preferred job. May Americans pray for her. However, her Mom should try to support the would likely be the democratic nominee Obama at this particular point in time if she is willing to make for her child a better road because of her image which was discredited.

Corey   May 22nd, 2008 10:31 am ET

Great, now the Clinton's will be out 42nd, 44th, and 47th president.

Don't you just love political dynasties?

We love you Good bye   May 22nd, 2008 10:31 am ET

I hope she will have a better answer than "none of your business" You are already campaigning for her, gues good choice mom will not make it

Brian from Fort Mill, S.C.   May 22nd, 2008 10:31 am ET

I think that Chelsea has plenty of experience in politics. She's been putting up with Bill and Hillary's crap since she was born!

I'd vote for her if she ditches her parents. They're a bad influence on her, especially Bill.

Alan Boyer   May 22nd, 2008 10:31 am ET

Perhaps Chelsea can be effective sans her parents' ruthless tactics.

james from brooklyn   May 22nd, 2008 10:31 am ET

Like they say, BILL is really a great politician…….he knows how to make ppl move, i think he just declare chelsea. interest in politic……give it another 3 to 6 month and you'll see chelsea name…….running for something…..i'm sure she has lot of experiece……..she campaign so diligently for her mom…….she even ducked sniper fire in bosnia……..yep she has been veted…….lol………i guess if you are not a bush or a kennedy, being and the white house or an elected official is going to be tough………lucky for us clinton has only one kid…….imagine if he had 10……….

let's go Obama

Jro   May 22nd, 2008 10:30 am ET

Good.she is a young person and will not be like her parents..hopefully..
And hey hillary..here's some good news for you..
There maybe a woman president, and she maybe a clinton and she maybe your daughter.

We love you Bill and the whole family! If the Obama fad-lovers on this site had the brains that you have the Dems would already have Hillary in place to be the nominee. But don't worry, we can get there without them if they really want it that way.

Thanks for all you have done for the Dems and for our country!

Indiana Ed   May 22nd, 2008 10:28 am ET

Why don't all you Clinton bashers go to hell…

WIll   May 22nd, 2008 10:27 am ET

I think she can do whatever she wants. If people vote for her and she really wants to serve the people, then more power to her. I tell you this much, she will have to learn how to tactfully field hard questions, thats for darned sure.

I always thought she was cute. Is that sexist?

David, Silver Spring, MD   May 22nd, 2008 10:27 am ET

Maybe Chelsea can run for President against Jenna Bush some day. And the winner can dissolve Congress and institute a monarchy and be done with the pretense.

Kate   May 22nd, 2008 10:27 am ET

Wow, these comments are harsh (but kind of funny). I am a bit tired of the Clinton/Bush dynasties going on here. If she has what it takes down the road, run…whatever. But I'm sure alot of other talented and educated women out there deserve just as much of a chance as Chelsea. It would be better to have someone who has a fresher outlook on politics, someone untaited by former political philosophy, and someone not influenced by her parents. While I am a Demo, I would prefer someone else (to say the least).

Rick in Florida   May 22nd, 2008 10:27 am ET

HO HUM. This definitely falls into the WHO GIVES A …….. category.

Bobby   May 22nd, 2008 10:27 am ET

I hope not !!!! I have a five year old daughter and a three year old son who will have to vote in the next 15-20 years. I don't want them to make the same mistake that "some" voters are doing already!!!!!!

Mike from Westchester   May 22nd, 2008 10:26 am ET

Hey all - cut Chelsea a little slick - no reason to be mean spirited!

Should she talk to the press? Yes
Is she a potential future Presidential candidate? extremely premature
Are there other excellent women out there? no doubt
Are there too many grey haired white guys running the show? absoutely, just look at the Senate

But its our fault - we keep voting them in - over and over

I was just at an high level training event in my industry - this is CEO training for the up and comers. 70% white males, 28% white females (this industry is somewhat female friendly), and 2% other. This problem exists throughout our society.

Stop focusing on gender and race. Stop making sexist and racist comments. That is part of the problem and, as frequently happens, is going to result in the most mediocre of the three candidates left, the old white guy, ending up in the White House.

BosnianSniper   May 22nd, 2008 10:26 am ET

Great. Youngsters getting involved in political process and running for office is good for our country. After all, they represent the future and must have a say in how we rule

ExPat   May 22nd, 2008 10:25 am ET

Chelsea could run on the Marcel Marceau party ticket. Stand there, move your hands and don't say a thing. I think she took her dad's "don't ask, don't tell" policy to new heights. A fine example of an elitist attitude if there ever was one! No mo' Bubba!

Michael   May 22nd, 2008 10:25 am ET

Please no more Clintons.

Emma   May 22nd, 2008 10:25 am ET

If Chelsea decide to go into politics then she must talk to the media and no questions are out of bound. She went to colleges, there is a bigger world outside of college/universities.

Good luck! I wonder if she will carry baggage from her mom and dad?

Maggie   May 22nd, 2008 10:24 am ET

Jake, that is my exact thought about you Obama supporters, only Chelsea hasn't gotten to the Kool-Aid table yet. Perhaps your office is serving Kool-Aid, better hurry…go…go…go

Rick   May 22nd, 2008 10:24 am ET

Please! I for one have had more than enough of the Clintons to last my lifetime. Bill betrayed the trust of the American people with his immoral behavior in the White House, Hillary blatantly misrepresented the truth on numerous occasions (By the way, what- ever happened to her signed pledge that Florida and Michigan wouldn't count? So much for "playing by the rules, I guess."), and Chelsea's political acumen appears to consist of "It's none of your business" responses to tough questions. Perfect!

Jim in Asheville   May 22nd, 2008 10:23 am ET

Just what America needs, another Clinton in politics. It will take America decades to recover from the first two. I'm sure that after a short lifetime of learning the ropes from her parents, young Ms. Clinton would bring the same "slash and burn" tactics to the political arena. Please, no more Clintons! We can do a lot better.

Doninpa   May 22nd, 2008 10:22 am ET

WOW… A clinton again… I think she might do better that her mom…. At least she understands the power of young people to affact change. That is what these young people at GASANSWERS.COM are doing. They have a plan to lowers gas prices…and to help the oil executives remember their annual salaries…..

Vicki NH   May 22nd, 2008 10:22 am ET

Obama supporters are a bunch of hypocrites. You tell everyone not to dare say anything negative about Michelle Obama but you can continually say disgusting things about Chelsea Clinton. You are only degrading yourself.

Perhaps Chelsea will be the first female president instead. :)
Hopefully she'll marry someone far outside of Bill and Hillary's influence and vices. :)

Amy Kathleen   May 22nd, 2008 10:22 am ET

Please God No. This country is not a monarchy, nor is this Cuba, have we not already seen what a disaster it is to vote for someone because their father or husband was president? The Clintons really need to let go, maybe buy a small island with all their wealth where they can govern the population as a monarchy, which is what they want to do here, and let the rest of us move on.

Debra   May 22nd, 2008 10:21 am ET

I am more concerned about how to finish this election vs. the prospect of Chelsea Clinton perhaps being interested somewhere down the road.

Hillary Clinton simply cannot be VP no matter how much she wants it because of her attacks against Obama and her continuation of divisiveness.

She does deserve something for coming in so strong though. I think she needs to be offered a Cabinet position. Either Attorney General or in charge of Health Care. If she is willing to put together and promote Obama's plans.

Hopefully that will placate her supporters and give her the due respect without compromising an Obama presidency where he really needs to have someone as VP who supports him whole heartedly.

Be NICE & KIND people   May 22nd, 2008 10:21 am ET

People be NICE and KIND. Be objective and FAIR. Clintons have done great things for this country. Don't forget that. And they are human just like you and me. What have you done for your country???

I hate the people that say we need change from the last two Presidential dynasties. Last time I checked Bill Clinton was the only Clinton in office. Yes, we do need change but change from the current Republican administration. Bill Clinton did not bring this country to the ground, Bush did.

David   May 22nd, 2008 10:21 am ET

"a natural campaigner who may one day follow her parents into the family business." That is what this country needs more of, natural campaigners. So what if they don't care about the country and its direction, just as long as they are a natural campaigner, they are fit to lead the greatest country on the face of the earth.

Obama08 but...   May 22nd, 2008 10:21 am ET

Well, according to our standards of experience, she will be well qualified being she lived in the White House before and is the daughter of the president. I won't be surprised if they have her running for president in 8 years based on all of these "qualifications". I used to love the Clintons but between all the lies, setting the stage for Al Gore's failure at election (thus getting us into Iraq), the way they have run Hillary's campaign, taken illegal contributions and denying everything (Paul vs. HRC, look it up) I can't believe these people have a spotlight in this great country's political process.

Are comments such as written by "sb" really necessary? It seems the comments on this blog have become a contest to see whose can be the most distasteful. No one on this blog knows the Clintons personally and therefore the personal attacks are unjustified. Doesn't anyone remember how much better life was when Bill was president. None of you were complaining then.

She can do whatever she wants. I don't know why people are down on her and saying she shouldn't. Everyone has a right to go into politics if that is their desire. Even though many of us Obama supporters don't agree with how Hillary has ran her campaign, that is no reflection on Chelsea. I think all intelligent women should be encouraged to become part of the political system and try to change the male dominated sea at Washington. A lot of people who say negative things here are just republican bots.

I just don't follow the logic of some of Senator Clinton's supporters in this blog. They are not being completely honest with themselves and many of their arguments lack rationale. I get it if you prefer Clinton over Obama…but to make up things about Obama or resort to calling him every nasty name you can think of as a way to justify your belief that Senator Clinton is the best suited candidate is not just utterly ridiculous, but vindictive and hateful as well.
I've read "Obama played the race card first", but nothing never follows that statement to explain the how or when. Is he being accused of playing the race card just by virtue of him being interracial. I've read Obama is a racist. That again defies logic… the man is interracial (black & white). He's constantly argued that a person's race shouldn't matter. His speech spoke to issues and concerns on race held by blacks, whites, hispanics, etc. In short, he said we need to get past those fears, the anger & hang-ups and work together. You all heard it. Maybe you refused to be believe that he was sincere, but you all heard it.
Senator Clinton made a stupid remark about being the most electable candidate because she has more white hard-working American voters. When has Senator Obama said anything that remotely resembles that? When has he said that he is more electible because of the votes of one segment of the population? Senator Clinton hasn't even apologized for that statement. I watched interview after interview of WV voters stating out loud that they won't vote for Obama because he's black. I don't believe that Senator Clinton is a racist. However, she has certainly made racially devisive statements that made racism seem acceptable by playing on the unfounded fears and the bigotry of those voters who were more inclined to vote against Obama simply because of his race. Yet, so many of her supporters refuse to hold her accountable for it. I don't hold her responsible for the blatant racism voiced by her supporters. But she had a responsibility to affirmatively state that racism should not be tolerated under any circumstances and that she is firmly against it. But she didn't do that because she wanted their votes. She's not stupid. She knew exactly what she was doing when she did it. Neither candidate is responsible for racism and neither one of them are racists. However, Senator Clinton has played on the racism harbored by some of her voters in an insidious manner.
Throughout this campaign Senator Clinton has changed her tune and made irrational arguments whenever something has not gone her way. Every time one of her or President Clinton's arguments fail.. Obama is somehow made responsible (e.g. he played the race card, he stood in the way of Michigan & Florida voters, he is a sexist, he runs the media, etc.) The truth is he ran a better organized campaign, won the most delegates and states. He has not discounted any of the states he lost (unlike Senator Clinton) and he always congratulated Senator Clinton on her wins (again unlike Senator Clinton). Some of the Clinton supporters on this blog are not being intellectually honest.
To both Obama & Clinton Supporters: Being bitter, acting like sore losers, and resorting to namecalling is counterproductive and in no way helps either candidate or the democratic party.

Why am I not surprised? I thought this country was headed by a government, not a royal dynasty… I am tired of Clintons!

wwf   May 22nd, 2008 10:09 am ET

Hey, cut her some slack. If you have not walked a mile in her shoes, put a sock in it. She could very well end up being the first woman president. From what I have seen of her I think she handles herself well. Say what you want about the Clintons, they do know politics. She will be her own person, not a copy of Bill and Hillary. For the record, I will be voting for Obama and have supported him from the beginning. I also do not want to see Hillary as vp, but hope she would take a high cabinet position.

stanley white   May 22nd, 2008 10:09 am ET

LOOK OUT FOR THE SET_UP, this has been brewing all along for the clintons. they are trying to extend their dynisty in politics, buy trying to crown the "AIR APPARENT" . Governor bill richerson , i think said it best, are we suppost to be loyal to the clintons , even down to their daughter? i think most people have a bond with bill clinton, but not his wife, and certinally not his daughter. She has not estabilseh any repor with the american people, except to say that she is the daughter of a past president , and the daughter of a mother who was trying to be the president and failed. She has no standing in this regard, and has no reacord of any political achievement on her own, except name reconition.

Ben   May 22nd, 2008 10:09 am ET

Unfortunately it seems that only the children of the elite become our leaders. Its a shame. If you people really want some change go with a third party candidate or right now the first place underdog, Ron Paul. Yes, he may be different, but different is what we need if we really want to get back on track. Don't you people realize that we can remove anyone from office with a just cause? If we want change we can't keep with this "traditional" stuff………

Blaising   May 22nd, 2008 10:09 am ET

God help us…not another one!!

Jen B   May 22nd, 2008 10:09 am ET

Just what this country needs, another Clinton to lie and pander to voters. And they call Obama elitist.

Beatriz Perez-Sanchez   May 22nd, 2008 10:09 am ET

From my understanding of history, I always believed that the American Revolution took place largely as a reaction to the dictates and excesses of monarchy and that it was a reaction against the concept of monarchy in general. What has happened to the republic of Washington and Jefferson? Now, more that two hundred and thirty years after the Declaration of Independence, the United States finds itself with the luxury of not one but two royal dynasties - the Bushes and the Clintons. Perhaps that explains why Hillary expected a coronation rather than a contest.

NC   May 22nd, 2008 10:09 am ET

She'll run as a Republican because the Clintons are mud in the Democratic Party.

martin   May 22nd, 2008 10:08 am ET

i'm sure hillary and bill have ruined any chances for chelsea to be an elected official.she's learned too many bad habits from her mother and father.

New York rrrrr   May 22nd, 2008 10:08 am ET

That's the ticket. She should give up her "indefinite leave" job to become a political parasite like her parents. In Brooklyn we call those no-show jobs.

Robert   May 22nd, 2008 10:08 am ET

Who proclaimed this woman.. who has no personality and hasnt ever answered a hard question in her life much less had to work .. the "representative" of the young vote?
none of them can relate to her silverspoon lifestyle.

she told her job to give her a perm. leave of absence or let her go so she could go play with mommy? how many of us could do that?

what has she done that makes her qualified to do anything in politics?

The Clintons are no John F Kennedy! :)

Jim, Minneapolis   May 22nd, 2008 10:08 am ET

Can we please MOVE ON from the Bush/Clinton neo monarchy of the past 30 years? I think I have seen enough of these two households, both alike in INdignity. Let's elect some new leaders so that we can get some NEW different results. Keep electing the same meatballs and nothing will change.

Elizabeth   May 22nd, 2008 10:08 am ET

First, let's get rid of ALL the Clintons - for good! Hillary keeps bawling sexism - nonsense. It is also about the TYPE OF WOMAN RUNNING FOR THE PRESIDENCY. I do not care for the Clinton women - mother like daughter. I would gladly vote for a woman president IF the woman running is A WOMAN OF CHARACTER!

GH   May 22nd, 2008 10:08 am ET

Once again I'm disgusted by the level of comments. In just the handful I've read, I've heard Chelsea described as "ugly", "frog faced", and "butt ugle" (sic). This is uncalled for. What did she do to deserve that? Some of you losers need to get a life.

Noel Arnold   May 22nd, 2008 10:07 am ET

Let's see, Hillary can't do it, let's try Chelsea. Why should any of us work for a living? It's so much better to milk the public teat. I'm tired of the Clinton rhetoric and values (if there are any). Chelsea should get a real job, one that expects her to work for a living, not just one that fills a void when there's nothing else to do. Chelsea does seem to be bright, but that could also be the Clinton hype. I wish a real person like Condi Rice would run, then we'd have not only a great candidate with true experience, but one that would break the race and gender barriers without having to continually complain about the gender or race card.

Chicago   May 22nd, 2008 10:07 am ET

WITH TWO BRILLIANT, DYNAMIC PARENTYS LIKE HILLARY AND BILL, SHE MUST BE EQUALLY INTELLIGENT AND CIVIC MINDED.

WE WILL SUPPORT YOU, CHELSEA!!!

WE SALUTE YOU, MADAME PRESIDENT HILLARY!!!

Bij- New York   May 22nd, 2008 10:07 am ET

I'm an obama supporter but think Chelsea would be a good candidate when she's old enough to run…a better candidate than her mom

Blue   May 22nd, 2008 10:07 am ET

I don't seen people telling the KENNEDY'S to get lost with their dynasty!

White middle aged woman for Obama   May 22nd, 2008 10:07 am ET

I'm soooooooo sick of the Clintons. I used to like Bill, but they both have shown how low they can sink. Hopefully if their daughter runs for any kind of public office she'll distance herself from Bill & Hill.

Obama 08

Jeanne, San Diego   May 22nd, 2008 10:07 am ET

And hopefully Chelsea will be able to manage her campaign much better than her mother has done. New York can keep them.

OH PLEASE....   May 22nd, 2008 10:06 am ET

Just what we need, another Clinton in politics. With her dad's infidelity track record and her mom's pack of lies..I can only imagine what we may get from that girl. Please spare us.

OBAMA 08′/12′

Chibuzor   May 22nd, 2008 10:06 am ET

Jesus is a christian! Give us a break would you!

John, St. Louis, MO   May 22nd, 2008 10:06 am ET

Amazing. People willing to campaign and vote for Chelsea without the slightest idea of what she stands for (except for what her parents tell her to stand for). And some of these same people are amazed that Obama can be so popular without giving the voters any specifics regarding his agenda. Wikipedia has a brief description of the lemming metaphor. I think it should be required reading for anyone supporting Obama or Chelsea. At least with Hillary you know what you're going to get, support it or not.

MI 4 Obama!   May 22nd, 2008 10:06 am ET

Another good reason NOT to vote for Hillary!

Chelsea good at politics?? She doesn't even have the guts to talk to or take questions from the media. Poor protected Chelsea…..

She could become President and then let mommy and daddy run the country for her…..

GOOD LORD! NO MORE CLINTON'S, NO MORE BUSH'S!

Obama 08 & 12!

Jake   May 22nd, 2008 10:06 am ET

Chelsea always reminds me of a cult follower, with Bill and Hillary being the brain washers. Kind of like the Moonies.

Dora   May 22nd, 2008 10:06 am ET

It sickens me to see people talk about other people's physical looks. Maybe you people need to look in a mirror yourself. It is strange to me that Obama won Caucuses and most people know that they can be easily rigged.

Jan   May 22nd, 2008 10:05 am ET

What a fickle and ungrateful lot we Americans have turned out to be! Bill Clinton led us (all colors) through the best and most prosperous years in decades and we turn on him like vipers when someone with a few pretty words turns our heads! What did he ever say to make Obama supporters so angry? Did Jesse Jackson not win South Carolina that year? I am sure he was not upset to be recognized as the winner of SC in a previous election. Furthermore, we vote in George Bush and then turn on HIM for protecting us from terrorism! Wake up, people Has there been another 911? The gas prices are not the govt's fault. It is our own fault for wanting the big cars and vacations. Please take some responsibility and look in your own backyard for solutions! a smart man once said "Ask not what your country can do for you-but, ask what you can do for your country"! Be patriotic and BE AN AMERICAN!

Riley   May 22nd, 2008 10:05 am ET

Enough with the Clintons already! Chelsea could have a much more fulfilling life outside of politics. Would she really want this for herself? She is being groomed by two of the most narcissistic, greedy, ambitious people ever to run for office, is there any hope she would be any different?

Jill in Chicago   May 22nd, 2008 10:05 am ET

Chelsea is sure to be the first female president. There is no one woman, on the playing field, dedicated, strong and intelligent enough to secure that job. Not Pelosi, NOT Sebilius. I am saddened that Hillary won't be the nominee. It is a major let down for women of all ages. Chelsea is our new hero.

BTW, anyone who knocks Chelsea is a blatant malcontent, unworthy of any credibility.

Go ahead and knock bill and hillary's marriage, but they got one thing right - they have raised one fine daughter.

NO SEBILIUS FOR V.P.

This democrat will stay home if that happens.

SR(Queens, NY)   May 22nd, 2008 10:05 am ET

How can she go into politics when she's a 27 year old woman that afraid to speak to the press????

Julian from Michigan   May 22nd, 2008 10:05 am ET

Good! Let hope the men don't still the election then too.

Mark K   May 22nd, 2008 10:05 am ET

Why not, She has 35 years of experience

FL   May 22nd, 2008 10:04 am ET

Yeah, there's the sign. She cried - good reason. She will need lessons on how to deal with the press LONG BEFORE she can consider politics. She proved herself publicly on that one. Good luck, hon.

as if!   May 22nd, 2008 10:04 am ET

Can you hear the debates now? "I don't feel that's any of your business." Pampered Miss Princess, you've already toured the world on the taxpayers dime. Count yourself lucky and don't push it. Your mother's failed campaign should be the espresso shot heard round the world: America's awake now and will no longer being lulled back to sleep by a endless stream of Clinton lies. Go away, already.

Realist in Maryland   May 22nd, 2008 10:04 am ET

Oh yay! Could we be so lucky? The Clinton dynasty will continue! She has such bang-up role models. This would be so great for the USA.

(Sense the sarcasm)

Dia Akin   May 22nd, 2008 10:04 am ET

Just when we thought we'd FINALLY be done with the Clintons.

I dont think it'll work out too well for her. As much as her mother has done to damage the deomcratic party, no one will take her serious enough to risk dealing with another Clinton. She wont be able to ride on her parent's coat tails as Hillary has tried with Bill.

But Hillary's nasty, demeaning, and poorly run campaign ruined any chance for Chelsea in the future. ESPECIALLY if the Dems lose this year. She'll be known as "the daughter of the woman who costs the Democratic Party an easy election."

Anthony   May 22nd, 2008 10:03 am ET

Good for Chelsea. It is her right to do with her life whatever she wishes. No one has a bone to pick about that. She is young and educated. Her record is clean. If you really think about it she has a better background then Bush your current President. I would encourage her to go for it. There is plenty of room to replace old thinking there in Washington.

Democrats for Obama   May 22nd, 2008 10:03 am ET

she is a woman! stop acting like she is a protected little baby. Talk about over protecting. Most people have real jobs at that age. ah, the life of an elitist.

andrea, Illinois   May 22nd, 2008 10:03 am ET

she would have to learn a lot…… (especially how to not do things….)
I find her effort for her mom very honorable, however Chelsea comes over very awkwardly and uncomfortably while talking in the campaign.
I doubt she has the charisma or the toughness for it!!

Dave   May 22nd, 2008 10:03 am ET

Oh, come on! There are 350 million Americans. This country doesn't need to be run by two families!

R.S.-St. Paul   May 22nd, 2008 10:03 am ET

Because of who their daughter is, I say they are good people. Any "good people" raise good children. Hillary is "my girl"! Chelsea is a wonderful, caring, smart young woman. For women like myself-strong women, Hillary is a good example of how you create a "good society", by raising good children. To all you Hillary haters—-I'd like to see your children and who they are as people. I'm sure they are spoiled brats!

paul   May 22nd, 2008 10:03 am ET

Why does it bother people that this country has not elected a woman president? If a person is not worthy of being president then their gander should not come into play at all.

I would not care if no woman ever becomes a U.S president. This country needs a real leader not one that cries about the media being sexist as well as voters.

It is funny when she gets treated like a women she tells you to treat her like a man and when you treat her like a man she cries like a woman.

Someone check on Hillary I think she is going though menopause!

Tone   May 22nd, 2008 10:03 am ET

She doesnt have a poker face, cant handle tough questions, WE DONT REALLY KNOW HER, whats her middle name, WHy dont she wear a lapel pin, isnt her former pastor up on molestation charges, Questions questions questions.

tidho   May 22nd, 2008 10:03 am ET

The Sith Lord has chosen a new apprentice?, lol.

j/k Clintonites…relax.

She does seem like she'd be good at it she's very cool under pressure. She could probably succesfully run for a seat in the House right now.

ltd1974   May 22nd, 2008 10:02 am ET

Yawn! Please no more Clintons

Ron, LV   May 22nd, 2008 10:02 am ET

Before she can run she will have to answer questions from the press. Also, I guess she could claim she has years of experience because she is the duaghter of a president and she even wen to Bosnia and ducked the sniper fire. I think it is time for Bill to go away and be quiet.

MC, Pa   May 22nd, 2008 10:02 am ET

If I were her, I would be deeply ashamed by my parents. Hope she will be a different kind of Clinton, the good kind.

Dee   May 22nd, 2008 10:01 am ET

I would take Chelsea over momma Clinton any day.!

Caroline   May 22nd, 2008 10:01 am ET

Chelsea Clinton has indicated several times that she is NOT interested
in politics. Bill Clinton just stated that she has "allergies" to politics.
If you look closely at Chelsea, she always has the expression of a
12 year old being forced by their parents to "perform" for the guests at
dinner.

Fredi   May 22nd, 2008 10:01 am ET

maybe she can repair the damage that her mother is doing to the family name … Or maybe Hillary should take her daughter as a role model …

Alex   May 22nd, 2008 10:01 am ET

I sure would love to quit my job and go work with my parents on the campaign trail. Must be nice. Basically saying, "You can take this job and shove it. My father used to be the President and my mother is trying to be the next President. I'll get paid by my parents." Spoiled brat

Independent for Obama   May 22nd, 2008 10:01 am ET

Well, she won't be able to pick and choose her questions like she does now. Her father's philandering will never go away.
I for one, don't want a Clinton dynasty.

Josh   May 22nd, 2008 10:01 am ET

Sweet Baby Moses!!! They want a royal family and people are actually glad for that. I feel ill. :(

Jaci   May 22nd, 2008 10:01 am ET

I always liked Chelsea. She is probably the only sane Clinton in their household. Hopefully their shenanigans didn't ruin that poor girl!
I wish her well…
Chels, Just don't get your mom's people to campaign for you. You will lose FO' SHO'

Judy   May 22nd, 2008 10:01 am ET

I really think Bill and Hillary are addicted to the spotlight. They simply can't and won't believe Hillary isn't going to win–they act like the White House is theirs and they want it back. So it doesn't surprise me that they are looking for another way to get back to the White House. Hillary lost because of her own behavior—I wish they could accept that and move on!

Gabrielle, Lancaster SC   May 22nd, 2008 10:01 am ET

I am an Obama supporter, but I would never support or criticize Chelsea based upon what I like or disliked about her parents. The same way I did not jump on the HRC bandwagon because I liked Bill, I will wait and see what she says. Where she stands on issues, and how she plays the political game.

Doug R.   May 22nd, 2008 10:00 am ET

She can run. So could almost anyone else.
And Bob…we don't need another 4 years of Bush policies (i.e. McCain).
And Mary56…most politicans will do anything to get a vote (look at the flip flopper McCain). Once they are elected, it's a different story. Where have you been?

Lame   May 22nd, 2008 10:00 am ET

Chelsea is not cute… Pandering politics won't work for her.. Sorry..

Robert   May 22nd, 2008 10:00 am ET

It is amazing how she can get "indefinite leave of absence" and the average person who was not connected couldn't.

Who is the elitist?

Glenn Doty, Columbia, SC   May 22nd, 2008 10:00 am ET

Well… I guess she was 13 when she moved into the White House. So, when she turns 48, she'll be able to claim "35 years experience" and run as "someone who is ready to lead on day one".

All kidding aside, I think Chelsea has infinitely more charisma than her mom… and she inherited far more of Bill's wit/instincts… She'll be pretty dangerous in the political arena. I wonder if she'll run for congress in 2010… If she breaks from congress to the governorship of a small state (Probably Nevada, her family has cred in Iowa and New Hampshire)… Then she really could run for president in her early to mid 40's, while both parents are still around to help her run…
By then the country will no longer have Clinton fatigue… and Chelsea hasn't made the catastrophic blunder of endorsing a dumb recreational war (yet).

Who knows?

blinky   May 22nd, 2008 9:59 am ET

is it too much to ask that a politician be a good politician, not "a good campaigner"?

marylee wagerman atlanta,ga   May 22nd, 2008 9:59 am ET

NEVER GONNA VOTE FOR A CLINTON EVER !!!!!!!!!!

Angela Lee   May 22nd, 2008 9:59 am ET

What a natural she would be! Apparently, she has the crying part down pat, already. Just think would a big advantage she would have in her refusal to answer any questions, too!

CLINTONS: THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING   May 22nd, 2008 9:59 am ET

WELL BIG SUPRISE THEIR!!! SHE WON'T GET FAR IF SHE DOESN'T STOP BEING A SNOT NOSE BRAT ABOUT ANSWERING QUESTIONS SHE DOESN'T WANT TO HEAR.

@americans   May 22nd, 2008 9:59 am ET

I had to battle with my boss just to go on leave of absence(not indefinite), but with the Clintons, it's their birthright!

life must be good for the Clintons; but remember that the good old USA is no Monaco and neither is it a monarchy govt.

ordinary americans do not go to harvard or yale like Chelsea did, work in a consultant firm where she gets paid six figures (over $100,000 for you uneducated Hillarious voters), go on leave whenever she deems fit, and decides to run for office, like her father Bill owns the United States!

life must be good for the $100 million dollars Chelsea Clinton family!!!!

now let me go find some change to fill my gas tank - if only Chelsea can loan me some of nickels & dimes!

AJ, IL   May 22nd, 2008 9:59 am ET

Must be nice to be employed for only a year at a $150,000 a year hedge-fund job and demand an indefinite leave of absence to go on the campaign trial to places like Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

If Chelsea can't answer simple questions about her and her parents public ordeal with Monica Lewinski on the campaign trail, there is no way she will last in politics under intense scrutiny.

Amy M   May 22nd, 2008 9:59 am ET

In 8 years, won't she be old enough to run?

Manu, Pittsburgh, PA   May 22nd, 2008 9:58 am ET

This is sad… We do NOT need another lying, ethically challenged, spin-at-all-costs, divisive Clinton figure on our national scene…

Enough of these boors already!

Cammi317   May 22nd, 2008 9:58 am ET

In the future, I may vote for her if she doesn't try to pawn off her eight years as "first daughter" as experience!!!

Pol   May 22nd, 2008 9:58 am ET

Oh, no! Not this Family. Enough is enough. Just let the girl to get married.

Enough is Enough   May 22nd, 2008 9:58 am ET

We need another Clinton as bad as we need another Bush. Now all we have heard from Hillary is that barack has no experience, and now Slick Willie is saying that Chelsea is going into politics? Please, America, do not do it again!!!

No Way   May 22nd, 2008 9:58 am ET

Please God NO! Please let the Clinton name die. Hillary is doing a pretty good job of killing it.

Scott, Ann Arbor, MI   May 22nd, 2008 9:58 am ET

This, more than anything, is admittance that Hillary is done, and they are trying to find new ways to improve their tarnished legacy by bringing the next generation into it.

She'd better start being more candid about how she feels about her parents behavior, because that environment which she grew up in is certainly fair game for voters to understand, in order to better evaluate her own personal set of values and beliefs.

Colbert in 08!!!

rumpusgoopus   May 22nd, 2008 9:58 am ET

Oh please God no! No more Clintons!

Michael, Torrance, CA   May 22nd, 2008 9:58 am ET

Slick Willie obviously still thinks way too much of Himself, his Wife and Chelsea. Bill was a good president only by being in the right place at the right time when things were good in America and around the world (thanks to 12 years of republican presidents). Hillary ran and won a senate seat on name only but is going to lose the primary. Chelsea would be able to run on name only as well.

Eli Richmond, Va   May 22nd, 2008 9:57 am ET

Chelsea should just keep the job her parents got her in New York. But I digress, if her ego is anything like her parent's once she has money she will want the power to go with it.

Milwaukee for Obama   May 22nd, 2008 9:57 am ET

good for her as long as she does not turn out to be so evil like her mother. We encourage young, honest energetic politicians who will be willing to serve people with respect and integrity.

TSR   May 22nd, 2008 9:57 am ET

It's no secret that the Clintons want to propogate their Dynasty, this is just confirmation from Papa Bill…..lmao

AnaHadWolves   May 22nd, 2008 9:57 am ET

Good for Chelsea. She has excellent role-models for public service in her parents. With them to guide her, she could become a force in the Democratic party within the next decade.

Randy   May 22nd, 2008 9:57 am ET

If she gets into it, hopefully she'll try the honesty approach.

michealinportsmouth   May 22nd, 2008 9:57 am ET

There's one thing to see and hear your mother and father do and say anything to get elected but another thing to actual adopt that mentality. If she is willing to corrupt her morals and say and do anything, have at it. I hope she is doing this eyes wide open. She has seen how there is no holds bar in campaigning. If she is using her EXPERIENCE campaigning for ther mother as a foundation for her on campaign, she is not going into this eyes wide open.

Mr Fix it (fixmaster33@yahoo.com)   May 22nd, 2008 9:57 am ET

Good for her if she really wishes to run one day.
As a young lady you can only admire that ambition only and only if it is truly comming from her.

Curious though… If Chelsea should run today what would be her experience - " I was the president kid at the white house for 8 years, i listened to my father make/receive some phone calls of national security, foreign policy and economy… and by the way i also campaigned for my mother during her presidential nomination…" GO figure.

Or if she actually ends up in to some sort of political arena, se mayor of NY hahahah. Then she can use that as experience may be.

Hope you are enjoying the circasm in my wording here. Point is i used to admire the Clintons during president Bill's presidency. However, watching them this time going through the do anything to get the nomination process is simply disgusting.

NO ONE DESERVES ANY POSITION IN POLITICS. THE PEOPLE SELECT HAVE THE CHOICE TO SELECT ONE ASPIRING CANDIDATE and that is how it should be rather than using political power and influence even at the cost of deviding your own party.

Navy Bobber   May 22nd, 2008 9:57 am ET

One of the other major blogs is reporting this morning that Hillary is desperate to get on Obama's ticket as VP. She is reported to said that if that can't happen, she would consider the VP spot with McCain. Interesting idea, but Chelsea with McCain would be even more appealing to get younger voters that McCain just can't break through with.

ree   May 22nd, 2008 9:56 am ET

Why not!!!

No matter what anyone thinks about the Clintons, they really are proud to be Americans and so is their daughter.

We don't know very much abourt Chelsea, since the Clintons did a very good job of keeping her out of the public eye until she was ready. I think she will do well in politics.

You go Chelsea.

alvin|   May 22nd, 2008 9:56 am ET

well said !!! but I don't think we should let you be in the white house, we don't need another Clintons in the hood

j williamson   May 22nd, 2008 9:56 am ET

Chelsea has grown into a lovely and poised young woman - I have a clear memory of her even before her Dad became president. She's certainly very bright and articulate and could add to the polictical discourse in any way she chooses.

mike   May 22nd, 2008 9:56 am ET

Don't they have terms for parents who live vicariously through their children?
I love how she goes to her boss and tells him what he has to do. Give me a leave of absence, I'm Chelsea Clinton.
You're right Bill, she is ready for politics.

mark   May 22nd, 2008 9:56 am ET

Great, all this country needs is another Clinton in politics. Just because she campaigns on her mother's behalf , Bill feels she's qualified. It's time to stop political inbreeding!!

Chipster   May 22nd, 2008 9:56 am ET

After the way her mother has been treated, despite decades of public service and fighting for rights for all Americans, I'm not sure why she or anyone else would ever bother.

Sen. Clinton has had more lies told and baseless accusations made about her than probably anyone in history. For example: those who keep saying that she signed an agreement not to count the votes in FL & MI - that is completely false. There was no such agreement for anyone to sign. She signed an agreement not to campaign in FL & MI and she did not campaign in those states. For the number of times she has been wrongly accused of lying, she's perhaps the most lied about candidate in history!

BTW, Dean had no problem moving a couple of states up, knowing they would go to Sen. Obama and give him an early boost. South Carolina's date change was certainly blessed by the Obama-supporting Chairman.

Good luck, Chelsea. I hope you have your mother's ability to focus on getting the job done without any expectations of appreciation or respect.

DoneWithDems   May 22nd, 2008 9:55 am ET

It's a good thing I'm a gentleman but don't let that keep you guys from having fun.

paul   May 22nd, 2008 9:55 am ET

And yet all her help is wasted because her mother is just not likable.

And I see her becoming just like her mother, another woman that would do and say anything for a vote and could not be trusted to lead any one.

Bill, Hillary and now Chelsea all becoming a big family of liars. Gee when will it end!

Already voted in Oregon   May 22nd, 2008 9:55 am ET

God I hope not. We've had enough of the Clintons. I'm getting tired of not voting for them.

I believe Bill (for once) when he says Chelsea is "allergic to anything we do." Her parents are both toxic.

If she does, she needs to chose a mate who won't be an albatross around her neck down the road…

Chelse Clinton will have a full and happy life, I hope, but the last thing this country needs is a third Clinton in politics. This, from someone who sided with Bill Clinton during the impeachment process and was looking forward to voting for the nation's first woman president. The current nomination race has exhausted my patience with their political amorality.

Good for Chelsea. She needs to stand up for her mother. She is a smart woman. If Hillary was not "white" and the "golden boy" was not "black" this race would have been over a LONG time ago. It makes me sick to see the reverse racism in the Obama camp.
I was a young Republican until the first Clinton Run. I found myself to be a moderate Democrat. I don't like that Obama is so far left, I don't like that McCain is so far right. I like Clinton as she is in the middle. He comment that she is like "goldilocks and the three bears" is right on the money. She is not too left, Not too right, she is in the middle. I would vote for Obama if I could determine what type of change he is attempting to make however, the only changes I have been able to verify from his past experience is the following:
1) He sponsored a bill in 2004 to create an organization for the immigrants, which alots them housing benefits, special loans, Medicare/medicaid, food stamps, WIC.
2) He has more missed votes in the Senate than Clinton, but ties McCain in missed votes
3) His Senate voting record has more "Present' votes than Yes, no or absent
4) He waits for others to make a decision, then jumps on board and if you disagree with the decision, he places the blame on others

We need a leader that will stand tall and put themselves out to protect us and make sure our future is not dismal. I cannot see that Obama has the capability to lead us and the only place I see him leading us to is distruction, confusion and hate. Not a leader for America.
