Obama holds a small lead over McCain, 4 months before the election, but previous summer polls don't always predict the outcome in November. (AP Photo)

(CNN) — The race for the White House remains tight as American heads into the July 4 weekend, a new CNN poll of polls shows.

In the latest CNN survey of four recent national polls, Barack Obama holds a 6 point lead over John McCain, 48 percent to 42 percent. That represents a slight increase for the Illinois senator over the last week: in a CNN Poll of polls released last Friday, Obama topped the Arizona senator by 5 points.

“As we hit the July 4 holiday weekend, the presidential polls seem to have settled into a stable pattern,” said CNN Senior Political Researcher Alan Silverleib. “Obama’s lead in our polling average has been holding relatively steady around the five percent mark for almost a month. The question now is whether that lead will hold — or possibly even expand — as we turn our attention to the conventions and the campaigns start advertising more.”

The presumptive presidential nominee has clearly increased his lead from one month ago: in a CNN poll of polls conducted June 2, when Hillary Clinton was still in the race, Obama led McCain by only one point, 46 percent to 45 percent.

But how predictive are presidential polls four months before the election? Not very.

Consider where the presidential race stood in 2004 heading into the July 4 weekend: then, John Kerry held a 4 point lead over Bush in a CNN poll of polls, 49 percent to 45 percent, a lead that evaporated by November. And in 2000, Bush was up 6 points over Gore at this point in the summer — and the outcome that year, of course, was one of the narrowest electoral victories in the nation's history.

Barack Obama over John Keating 5 McCain any day, any month… Now through November.

People are tired. People want change. McCain does not equal change. Obama will win this election by a landslide. It doesn't matter what the polls say now. Young people are involved. This is their revolution. Obama will win.

The Surly Scholar   July 3rd, 2008 6:28 pm ET

Why YES, CNN. That's right! Summer polls are hardly predictive of the November results! So maybe that means you should stop putting out another amalgamated poll every three days.

Yeesh.

Phil, FL   July 3rd, 2008 6:30 pm ET

McCain should not look at the white house as a retirement home, and he should NOT think of US citizens and our money as pawns in a crap shoot.

He should just concede now. No more wars !!!!!!!!!

All the polls do is serve the interests of the pollsters, who otherwise would have to get real jobs.

Stop the frequent polls   July 3rd, 2008 6:32 pm ET

Polls like these don't matter and only take up time and resources. What really matters is a running count of the Electoral College. Even so, the polls mean nothing this far out, and will change drastically. And lastly, polls updated every day, or every other day, is way too much, especially considering their irrelevance.

Hey Liz - Young people supported Hitler, too. People wanted change then, too. They got change; the whole world got change, but evidently you weren't around then, or maybe you think like Ahmadinejad. I know this won't get past the CNN moderators but they did say "Leave Your Comment". How 'bout some comments other than the tired old liberal propaganda.

I'm sick of these daily polls. I'm thinking about turning off the news all together because there has not been a legitimate news story reported in, well, I don't even know how long.

Peter   July 3rd, 2008 6:37 pm ET

I hope Obama widens the lead but it really does not mean much now until running mates are selected and the conventions take place.

Then, hopefully, people will watch the debates and see that Obama is qualified and smart enough to run this country. After the last 8 years, what else could we want?

And please don't give me the flip-flopper argument (like McCain has not changed almost all of his positions) or the inexperience argument (how many of you citing inexperience voted for Bush?). President is no longer a one-man job.

Carolina Dood   July 3rd, 2008 6:39 pm ET

I am somewhat surprised that the polls don't indicate the Obama LANDSLIDE yet. But McBush IS re-org'ing his staff amidst concerns of just that !!

This is the year of the DEMOCRAT, and it's about time. Eight years of repube evangelical-supporting rhetoric is WAY TOO LONG.

Just remember……..

CNN: I understand your network has a vested interest in making money off this election. But for the sake of honesty….please, stop saying the race is close. Its not a race When Barack Obama is beating John McSame in Montana ( Montana of all states) by 5 points and Virginia by 4.

Bonnie   July 3rd, 2008 6:40 pm ET

I'm still a Hillary supporter but will, reluctantly, vote for Obama. We need to change the way Washington works, bring the Supreme Court back into balance, deal with the immigration issue (just not fiscally feasible to deport millions of people), end the oil war in Iraq and redeploy those troops to Afghanistan . . . and does anybody actually believe it was 'coincidence' that McCain was in Colombia when the hostages were rescued? Pure Rovian stagecraft! We all applaud Senator McCain's service and sacrifice, but many of today's voters neither remember nor care about Viet Nam. I'm old enough to have lost many friends in that thankless war and Iraq is as hopelessly winless as Viet Nam was.

Do you guys ever read this ticker?

These polls are ridiculous and contradict themselves daily, if not, several times a day.

Scroll back through your own ticker……… you will see headlines like, "polls show people don't like Obama's wife", then the next one says "polls show people adore Obama's wife". then .."polls show people like both candidates wives equally",

Then we get " polls show Obama and McCain in dead heat", next "polls show McCain trailing Obama", then "polls show Obama's having a hard time reaching out to such & such group"

This stuff is useless!

Sherry   July 3rd, 2008 6:43 pm ET

Unless the people of America want world war three to become a reality , they better vote for Obama.

Obama will bring honor and respect from other nations back to America.

McCain will continue to further put our country in decay and doom.

Lets bring some bright change to the U.S.

With Obama we can

Rick   July 3rd, 2008 6:43 pm ET

As far as I am concerned until the votes are counted Obama will always be the underdog. Don't trust any of these polls that make McCain look like he is trailing in this election. I don't trust the media either because I feel that even at CNN the movers and shakers want McCain to win and everyone knows that this country likes underdogs. So if the mainstream media makes McCain look like an underdog that only helps him.

Geez another CNN fantasy poll. Give me a break.

BTW, this guy, Obama, has to the idiot of all times.. What does he think will happen, if we unilaterally pull out of Iraq in haste. He has no sense.

Iraq will become easy pickings for Iran to send their terrorists into Iraq and create the kind of atmosphere that some countries found themselves in during the great Blitz Krieg of 1939 -1940 ie Norway, Denmark, Poland, Belgium and Holland to name a few. Hitler wanted to protect these countries from outside enemies and overthrew their legal governments. Iran would do the same to Iraq in a heartbeat.

Let's not let the liberal senator recreate history and lose this valuable resource to the western world.

Give me a break send Obama packing back his ultra liberal roots.

Barrack Obama will win this election by the biggest landslide ever. 66% of the vote at least. People of this country are running away from the travesty the Bush Administration and the Republican Party exacted on our country in the last two terms. We will suffer long and hard for Bush's inept service.

Nate   July 3rd, 2008 6:54 pm ET

Change? What kind of change? Obama does offer change. But not the change we nead. I am all for change if its for the better. Obamas is not.
McCain '08!

JonRoss   July 3rd, 2008 6:54 pm ET

If you support Obama you should ask yourself what he means when he says "change". He is on both sides of most issues so no one really know where he stands. He has a Marxist background which means he is going to tell you what type of car you can buy, where you can go, what you can eat, how much you can eat, what the temperature in your apartment or house can be, what your children are taught. You will lose the right to make all of these decisions and more. His philosophy is similar to Joseph Stalin and Vladamir Lenin who caused the deaths of 100 million people. Be very careful about that :"revolution" you rooting for.

Andy   July 3rd, 2008 6:54 pm ET

And with Obama now polling ahead of McCain in Montana, many formerly red states are clearly becoming swing states. McCain is on the defensive in states he has to win, and is going to have to fight hard to keep Virginia, New Mexico, Nevada, Alaska, Montana, North Dakota, and North Carolina in the Republican column.

Jean   July 3rd, 2008 6:55 pm ET

This is the year for the DEMOCRATS!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JFK   July 3rd, 2008 6:58 pm ET

These polls are not how this thing is going to end up. Keep in mind that the election is based on the Electoral College votes not the popular vote (sad…of course from the '00 election). This time, however, it's going to be a very big victory for the Dems. Obama is up by huge margins in some states that should be going the other way…it's just going to keep that trend. So, don't be fooled by the 6 point split right now; it's probably more like 15 with the electoral picture.

mike D.   July 3rd, 2008 6:58 pm ET

this election has nothing to do with mccain. it has to do with obama, and if he can keep a solid campaign going without crashing, he will undoubtably be the president.

I believe obama will win, but I dont think he will win in a landslide tho, I do think the polls will start to change even more as months go by, and people get tired of the same bush policies that got America like this in the first place. America was great when we had a democrat president until a republican came. Obama just needs to continue doing what he is doing, and pick a good vp, which doesnt really make a difference because his supporters and plus will vote for him anyway.

Teddy   July 3rd, 2008 7:17 pm ET

If you check Gallup Polls, in the past 3 weeks or so, whenever the stock market went down (almost every day), Obama's poll numbers were better. In the few days when the stock market actually went up, McCain did better. The stock market, economy, and gas prices will determine the election outcome. All kinds of campaining are only secondary. If the news about stock market, economy, and gas prices becomes better in the coming election, McCain will win. If the news continue to be bad, and even worse, Obama will win because Americans will just want to through Republicans out of White House evne though they still know very little about Obama and doubt he has enough experiences to govern.

However, if there are some big events like terrist attacks or Israel bombing Iran's nuclear facility trigging another Middle East war, then the economy issue will become the secondary issues.

George Gowan   July 3rd, 2008 7:17 pm ET

Another dazling headline from the news media. Why don't they just declare Obama a victor of the contest and ignore the election? Amazing the headline can be negative toward McCain and never be mentioned in the actual article.

At one time, we had a media and CNN was one of the leaders that acted impartially and did not try to influence the election one way or the other. Just made sure the actual issues were discussed.

It is amazing how far the media has fallen for OBAMA.

Ron Paul is real change? No his not. Barack Obama is the only man that can end the Iraq war. He still must make sure that Iraq will not be another South Vietnam. Plus Ralph Nader is just a populist.

Slapstick Psychic   July 3rd, 2008 7:19 pm ET

You've got to be kidding me? Ron Paul? The young people who are voting are educated enough to know that Dr. Paul would destroy our interior while isolating the US- effectively putting our heads in the sand internationally. Libertarians are great for rich people, but the rest of us know better. And if you think the majority of new voters this time around are excited about voting for another Texas Republican, I've got some snake oil to sell you…

Val from MA   July 3rd, 2008 7:20 pm ET

McCain will win in November in the landslide.

Obama = politics as usual. Everything that he talked about before (throughout the primaries) no longer serves any purpose to him - he is now trying to move himself in the middle, but it's too late now Obama. You are just a typical politician who would say anything and everything to get elected. American people are smarter than that. You will not get elected.

A VOTE for MCCAIN is a VOTE for PAIN   July 3rd, 2008 7:22 pm ET

Polls don't really amount to much, especially when the media keeps things as close as they can to create meer excitement. I bet the real number is more like 78 to 19…give or take +/-3 percentage margin of error. McCain should use his campaign bus to help his twin brother Bush with his upcoming swift ejection out of our State House.

Gary of El Centro, Ca   July 3rd, 2008 7:22 pm ET

Kerry led at this point in 2004 based on his long experience in the senate and his war hero status. It wasn't until the swift boat attacks that he started dropping in the polls. McCain has long experience in the senate and has war hero status. Since his war hero status has not really been attacked yet, McCain should be ahead in the polls. The fact that he is not reflects what a weak candidate he really is. Obama and his "change" movement will carry the day in November.

white people for obama   July 3rd, 2008 7:23 pm ET

And the biggest flip-flopper is McCain, why isn't he getting scrutinized for his numerous errors and flip-flopping. Is CNN Pro-GOP!

Oh well my friends, lets bomb them all!

Because even though your vote is pretty much wasted.. those voters are generally taking away from the republicans. Those of you writing in Hillary.. I frown upon you.. you are choosing to slap Hillary in the face.

I just don't understand why people are even wasting their time voting for candidates who either aren't even running, or stand a 0% chance. I know it may be out of principle… but really.. do you really want your vote completely wasted?

RE This statement: "BTW, this guy, Obama, has to the idiot of all times.. What does he think will happen, if we unilaterally pull out of Iraq in haste. He has no sense."

This shows exactly what I'm talking about when I say Obama haters just like to plug their ears and close their eyes and throw out random comments with no backing.

First off.. Obama isn't just gonna pick the military up and go in haste. He's talking about a slow, steady withdrawel over a period of a year and a half. If you call that haste.. I can only imagine how slow moving your life is. Second, he's even said that he plans on re-evaluating the situation once he goes and visits there… though he still aspires to stick to his original plan unless you sees evidence which would cause him to extend that.

This statement alone has got all the Obama haters out there screaming that he's flip flopping… even though what he's saying is a statement of total common sense.

So please… when making comments… stop being so black and white. Every situation has an element of gray in it… and if Iraq can NEVER keep the terrorists out of it's country.. then you're saying we can NEVER leave? Common.. let them take some accountability.

Much can, and probably will, happen before November. Who is ahead right now matters very little in the whole picture. I am waiting to see who the running mates will be. That could change things.

Anita from Arizona   July 3rd, 2008 7:36 pm ET

Who in here is STILL talking about HILLARY? And giving a speech on a runway is fine. It's better than holding a conference in a foreign country. I read that act by McCain loud and clear. Other countries first but I'll fit some states on my campaign trail later on. So close to Independence Day too.

Obama=Osama?

Where do you guys come up with this? How about some facts….like McCain says we could be in Iraq 100 years, McCain is ready to surrender the environment and drill off the coast, McCain is ready to nominate conservative Supreme Court justices (think Alioto, Scalia, and Thomas).

This is real and it will take our country away from us.

Michael   July 3rd, 2008 7:55 pm ET

Wow! What a big lead! I mean six points, that's a blow out. McCain should just give up and go home. The truth of the matter, CNN, is that McCain says nothing, does nothing, raises little money compared to Obama, yet holds his own. Obama should be nervous. His money and spending did not help him that much in many key battleground states during the primary.

Obama-nites should be worried. CNN, CNBC and every other media outlet have absoluted adored everything about Obama. They have trashed McCain and make a big deal about any minor mistake he makes. The economy is bad, gas prices sky high and all you have to show for it is a 5 or six point lead.

Hillary voters don't trust Obama and counting on their vote will cost them. If 10 or 15% of Hillary dems vote for McCain (which is possible), McCain will win easily.

Anyone who thinks Obama will win in Montana or the South is dreaming.

For Obama to win, he needs to win the swing states of Ohio and Pennsylvania. McCain will play very well in Pennsylvania and John Kasich from Ohio as a running mate would take care of both states for him.

Obama should be real concerned about that, because with the 1 1/2 year recession in Michigan under Democrat leadership and gasoline prices up $1.70 a gallon since Pelosi and her pals took over, this could be a rout.

Obama and his new taxes stand for change, because that's all that will be left in your pocket when he's done. (I know this won't get by the CNN moderators).

sweetie   July 3rd, 2008 8:16 pm ET

The Democratic Party is trying to act united and brave. They are far from united. Brave is a joke, they won 3 out of 10 elections in 40 years, two by a Clinton. The Democratic Party has endless actions by democrats against them. Millions of democrats do not accept the way Obama was selected and the party is hushing this. Far left West Coast Progressive Liberals truly believe everyone will vote for Obama in November because he is pro-choice and will choose the judges. They are so infactuated by Obama they are failing to be objective. In the meantime thre are democrats who do not like and will not vote for Obama because they saw how he ran his campaign and how he continues to use media manipulation and Bush styalized tactics against free speech. His whole strategy is to demonize Bush, yet his own ideas and stances are so vague. He hopes to get into the White House because he did not sign the bill that Bush used to go to war. He could not vote as he was not yet elected to the senate. Now he is using anger agaist the war and security policies to build his coalition of supporters. He and the DNC blocked the THE PEOPLES voices in Florida and Michigan. 5 States broke the rules yet only 2 states were punished. Democrats will rebel in November by choosing Mc Cain because they do not believe he is another George Bush. They believe that Obama presents much more a likelyhood of a 3rd Bush term as well as a highly probable danger to national security and other strategic national interests.

Gary Chandler in Canada   July 3rd, 2008 8:17 pm ET

More easing of World tensions by Bush. It's clear he is pulling the rug out under McCain's major campaign hope. …on the road to detente with North Korea, talks expected with Iran after European talks work out the nuclear issue, peace in Iraq, cell phones in Cuba.

The Obomination campaign is a campaign of lies and flip-flops and of course, BO, definately is a man of change, he is always changing his mind. How can anyone believe anything he says. I wish the people will wake up to him. Obama, will do or say anything to win the White House, it won't be long before he rolls his wife gently, and slowly under the bus. As you can see they are making her go through a complete makeover, how can she stand it, pretty soon she will be a shadow of herself. I don't think she will put up with it for very long. Obama, will not win the Hispanic vote or Christian vote because of his stance on the social issues. He is for partial birth abortion, and gay marriage, Abortion is the scorge of our time, especially when those being aborted are mostly Africans and African Americans, He is for genocide of his own people. I feel that modern day abortion is worst than slavery. I pray that God will have mercy on the USA. American people did not like Geroge Bush to run the govt.but they never objected to any other republicans running the govt. Mr.McCain
is distancing himselves away from Mr.Bush and this is to remind the voters that he is against his policies. Senator Obama is changing his stance from what he said in the democratic primories to please the
democrat voters to something else to please the international communities. He will be soon found out playing games with the people of America and it may be difficult for him to defeat Mr.McCain
in November unless he does not change his policies and plans now & then and stict to what he said earlier in the primories.

Michael   July 3rd, 2008 8:30 pm ET

I'm an 82 year old white man, and I truly believe Barack Obama can be one of our greatest presidents. You would think that simply being a former POW somehow constitutes insuring that such a person would be a great Commander-in-Chief.
We need a strong non-military man as our chosen Civilian leader of our military establishment, as our Constitution calls for. Eisenhower's warning about the power of the Military-Industrial complex is more relevant today than it was 50 years ago, when he warned us of the insidious nature of a strong Military combined with a powerful Military Industry constantly seeking to lead us from one military adventure to another; to maximize business growth in that arena, as well as an ever-growing military cadre.
The world's citizens are excited about the prospect of a possible Obama victory in this country. His appeal across the spectrum of nations, from Europe to Africa to Asia is astounding. The World Press is much more sophisticated than our own. Obama's election, if it comes about, will be greeted with excitement and celebration in every capitol of the world.
However, they are not too sure we will show the wisdom to overcome racial and political games to elect him. Remember the headlines in 2004, in world-wide newspapers: "How can 59 Million People Be So Stupid!?" Even if America did not know its blunder, the other people in the world knew!
Certainly at times I said a small part of this, but never in this context! It is ridiculous to throw out these comments because your computer finds some common ground with former comments. I protest!

A question for Obama supporters….Today Obama said he'd "refine" his promise of getting the troops out immediately. When he made that promise in the primaries was he telling a lie or just demonstrating his lack of experience/understanding in national security matters? I'm not sure which is worse.

Richard   July 3rd, 2008 8:40 pm ET

The difference this year is that Democrats are more energized than ever. And things in the country are much worse now than in '04. Had we had just a little better candidate in '04, we wouldn't be in this mess right now. In Barack Obama we indeed have a much better candidate and this time the fickle youth vote will be there. That was proven in the primaries.

In 2000, Bush did not have an electoral victory. He had a judicial victory. Also, while things will certainly change before the election, a six point lead is by no means "tight." If he wins by 6 points, it will be considered a mandate.

Being a dem I will vote for McCain as will alot of dems. Obama does not have a clue how to run this country. He talks alot but does not anything. The media has helped Obama get where he is now. The fact is this country needs experience and McCain has it. Obama has none. This country is in bad times and we cannot afford to train Obama how to fix it. McCain is the only answer. I am still disgusted with the injustice I saw against the Clintons during the primaries. They seem to want to move past it, but I am a person who stands up against injustice until I feel justice is done. And, I do not feel justice has been done as yet. I think the DNC and the RBC and the leaders of the Party DESERVE a LOSS in November. But, I do not want to see that happen. I would like so much to be able to be rooting for my Party and working for the Democratic candidate - because I truly like Barack Obama, but I do not feel free in my own conscience to do that right now. Barack Obama will make my decision for me. It will depend on who he selects for his VP runningmate. I will have to stand up for what is right, even if it hurts. I am so afraid that he is going to do something so very egregious to women in this country after all we have suffered in this election thus far. I am afraid he will choose a less qualified, less deserving woman or man than Hillary Clinton for the VP slot. That would be so egregious and so intolerable to me that there are not even words. I also do not think many Democrats will be appeased by a placement of Hillary Clinton into ANY position that is not equal to her.

Dan, TX   July 3rd, 2008 9:05 pm ET

Peter E   July 3rd, 2008 9:05 pm ET

Obama '08!

Now, will my comment make it past the liberal media filter?
CNN has a history of publishing polls only when it favors their agenda, which is to make things slightly 'interesting' while making their guy look good. They want to tell you not to think for yourself but isntead listen to what they conclude. And they're trying to intimidate you into thinking that if you disagree with the polls they publish then there's something wrong with you.
Just a little while ago they published a poll by the LA Times (yeah… consider the source) showing Obama up by double digits nationally, while at the very same time not showing the poll from Gallup that had them dead even…
The same Gallup that they highly publicized when it showed Obama above Hillary by double digits while denying to report how Gallup (the SAME poll!) showed Hillary leading McCain by larger numbers than Obama was leading McCain.

SUE, Michigan   July 3rd, 2008 9:07 pm ET

I simply do not believe that anyone with half a brain can consider voting for more of the same with McCain. If we aren't in Iran in the next 4 months, we certainly would be come January 21. That should anger and terrify all of us! We are not to be the world's policemen. We are not to be invading countries in the quest for oil money. My God, this country was founded to get away from that sort of imperialism. Bush is a war criminal, and should be in jail. I'm not so sure McCain doesn't belong there as well. And Congress needs to be thrown out, every last one, for permitting this war to continue by caving to Bush AGAIN with funding! Does no one hear us??? I want my country back! IMPEACH!

Nevertheless, I am a Democrat, I am a Hillary supporter, and I will be voting for Obama in this election. Why??? Because I am sick and tire of paying the high prices at the pump, I want this senseless war to end, I want more jobs created, affordable healthcare etc….. etc.

So many of you say Obama is going to win by a landslide. How many of you people read past a 2nd grade level? I believe the most recent "poll" shows a 6 percent lead for Obama at 48%. I hardly call that a landslide and based on the last 2 elections and these recent polls I'd have to say this great country couldn't be more divided.

Of course we shouldn't worry much about the terrorism threat in this country, this country is going to go down the toilet from the inside out. Many of the imigrants that came to this country wanted to fit in with the crowd, now everyone has to be independent or in their little "click". One little thing ruffles their feathers and they scream injustice or inequality or their civil rights have been violated. I got news for you all….get over it. Mike   July 3rd, 2008 9:16 pm ET

The stupidity of some of the comments (from both sides) on this board is frightening. It's no wonder we have an enormous deficit, as the majority of people simply vote for who sounds good or connects with them without actually thinking about or understanding the longer term ramifications.

So because McCain is a Republican, that means he's just like Bush to many of you? One individual says we need change in Washington, but she was a Hillary supporter. Huh? Oh, and Obama is going to do a better job to turn around the economy than McCain, that's laughable. Let's raise taxes accross the board and see what type of economic stimulus that provides. On the other side, we have a few people making no so thinly veiled comparisons of Obama to Hitler. What a joke.

If people could just tone down the rhetoric and talk about facts instead of fantasy, we'd all be better off. This will not be blowout by either side. Whoever wins, we better start to actually work together to address the long term problems this country faces rather than always voting along party lines and trying to appease voters..

I don't expect you to publish my comments because I know you won't. But I do at least want you to read them instead of filtering them through key phrases like 'Obama 08′ or 'vote Obama' or 'gobama.'

I am tired of your pro-Obama bias, filtering the news, only publishing polls that have Obama up, rewording news that make good news about McCain seem sinister, (example: McCain's knowledge of the Columbian 'raid' instead of calling what it was, a rescue operation) and bullying the public into not thinking for themselves but just parrot your selections.
You've published irrelevant stories about the personal life or campaign tactics of the candidates while suppressing stories about issues that affect our lives, where the candidates stand on those issues, and what their record is on those issues.
You don't report. You don't analyze. (analysis is based on facts and data, not made-up stuff) You inflame, speculate, and filter with a bias.

It's not as if I disagree with Obama on all the issues, but now, thanks to the double-standards of CNN's reporting, I refuse to vote for him even if he saw the light and agreed with me on more issues.

I am still an angry democrat and still planning to vote for McCain. It is evident that neither party elected the best candidate. I still believe McCain will surprise many when he win the presidency; he deserve it. Obama is not ready yet.

With all the problems in McCain campaign an he still close to Obama… watch out he is going to win…just wait until he put his campaign in order. Those other democrats deserve to loose for not paying attention to the reality of the moment; a moment that deserves a different kind of president.

they report polls like this thinking you are like sheep follow the mob do not think for your self vote with the poll because that makes you a winner… follow your own mind and do some real reading about each candidate……. if you do that you will see beyond the glitz of fancy analogies. hopes, and unprovened promises…. vote your mind not your anger or emotions

It is a clear pattern and the American people are not going to change their mind about the way the current republican administration manage the economy, jobs lost, housing lost, deficits and so on.

The time has come for a change in a new direction. The time has come for the Democrats to fix the economy and bring back the jobs that have been lost.

Obama 08 & 12.

Wrong, DM, Arlington - our service members do NOW — and have ALWAYS — given their lives for the country they love and respect — and protect — for YOU, Dude!.

But, of course, DM, Arlington, you wouldn't understand that. Your head is in the clouds, you would p– in your pants if you were ever faced with truly defending your country. You prefer to "blog" your opinions from some "safe haven" or some Starbuck's coffee shop — or, most likely, from your employer website on company time. Basically, you are a COWWARD. I suggest you move somewhere else, and see how you like it there!

funny that obama can't get a bigger lead even after the unity thing with clinton…he's in real trouble..he's running out of catch phrases and will have to debate actual policy soon…will the citizens finally see that he's nothing more than a good speaker? will they see that his views simply don't mesh with 95% of this country? will they see that he won't shy away from his socialist views even when shown that they simply fail when put to use? i'm not convinced our citizens are smart enough to decipher what he is putting out there…

anyone but obama in 08

The only change we get from this guy now is when he changes his mind to suit his message on a particular day.

If this guy gets elected, the only change you are going to get is what's left in your pockets when he is finished taxing everyone up the whazoo — because that is all you are going to have left when all is said and done.

Wake up people — this guy is not the answer!

It's Obama's to lose. There will be nastyness from the rabid wing of the Republican party, and sabotage in the media from the Israeli party.

The commentary from Dick in Sioux Falls is very well said. Read it, it's the best comment in the whole thread.

Yet again I read that many of you seem to be misguided with your "8 years of Republican rule" statements. Correct me if I am wrong but didn't the Dems take over both sides of Congress with the "Change" statement 2 years ago? Seems to me we haven't seen this "change" yet.

Moreover if you think about it the foreclosure crisis, economy crisis and gas price increase have all happened while Congress has been controlled by the Dems! Obama is just using the "change" statement the same way the Dems say the Republicans us the "terror" statement. They will say whatever they think you want to hear to get elected, period.

And the last thing I have to say is stop saying this war in Iraq is an "oil" war. If it was you'd think we wouldn't have these gas price issues!

America needs to show to the world that Americans love Peace. We select a President who supports to strengthen infrastructure so people live in peace and prosperity, to build up hi-tech military defense, to provide accurate international intelligence, to start alternative energy programs and not to keep drilling oil and building more nuclear power plants that are human errors and disasters prone, and to lead in resolving the global warming.

Yes We Can. We can change with President Obama.

Dear Sir/Madam,
Just watching Campbell Brown on her show. I am astonished at what I am hearing about Sen. Obama, with reference to his patriotism. Let me clearly define, who I am first and foremost. I am a African-American born and raised in B'ham, Ala.
I served in two(2) wars or conflicts. Whatever, you want to called them, Korea and Viet-Nam. Many other African-American fought and died in those conflicts. Also, they are being killed in Iraq and the Afgahan conflict. But, in this day and age. Blacks still have to prove that we are patriotic to the United States. What has happened to the Constitution of this country. When new anchors contuine to subject Sen Obama to a different standard. I thought that we were fighting in these wars to eliminate this type of hypocrisy. I never heard anyone ask if Pres. Bill Clinton was a "true blue patriot" or Pres. F. Roosevelt the same.
Please, approach your news editors with these same questions. I do want to contuine to watch CNN News.

10 to 1 JonRoss is over weight. He is very concerned that Obama might mess with his food (ie what to eat and how much). People want change, and Obama is different. You must admit that.

Obama will take the general elections by a land slide. He will be the first African American president of the US and leader of the free world. H
