McCain not ready to announce running mate.
McCain not ready to announce running mate.

(CNN) – John McCain has not settled on a running mate and the timing of any announcement has not been determined, a senior McCain source told CNN.

That appears to differ from a Washington Post report Friday that the Arizona senator plans to announce his VP choice at some point before the Olympic Games in China that kick off August 8.

But the McCain source tells CNN all discussions about a running mate are still underway and McCain has given no indication he has made a decision. Moreover, McCain is just as likely to announce his choice at the end of August as he is in the first part of the month.

But top McCain adviser Charlie Black told CNN earlier this week that the campaign has done enough vetting of VP prospects so that the Republican candidate would have enough information to make a decision, and an announcement, whenever he wants.

Gotcha. Funny. All that time leaking little VP rumors, and putting down Obama's trip (which he encouraged), he could have been constructive and actually discussed more of his plans or project his own inspirational thoughts. Just a suggestion. Unfortunately wasted it looks. Too bad.

McCain's campaign may have a surge strategy in moving up an announcement of his VP mate.

Grocery markets across the country are noticing a surge in dairy sales, after McCain speaks about surge.

The smell of knockwurst is in the air as millions of Americans take to their grills, after McCain has sausage at Schmitt's… a sausage surge.

Reality… ***crickets***

A Nightingale Sings in Berkley Square   July 25th, 2008 10:11 am ET

I think a Mitt Romney will give the presidency to McCain. Mitt is one smart dude. I've heard him speak and he is next to brilliant.

Mitt is a former governor of MA a Kennedy state and he was also in charge of the Winter Olympics. In both jobs he excelled.

I think he can bring MI, MA, Utah, ID, Montana and a few other states to the McCain table. For this reason he should be the PICK.

Mike   July 25th, 2008 10:12 am ET

He should go with Colbert. Then people can start taking him more seriously.

David   July 25th, 2008 10:13 am ET

He is just trying to get some attention. Senator McCain is so desperate these days, he would say anything. I can understand the feeling but this is a lesson for him. The Bush policy will take him no where. Not even to Mexico!!!!

Becky   July 25th, 2008 10:15 am ET

McCain was just trying to steal Obama's thunder while Obama was overseas. zzzzzzzz McCain is so transparent and his snickering reminds me of George W. Bush, among many many many other things.

Then what was all the hub-hub about the last few days…oh that's right, Mcbush tripled dogged dared Obama to go overseas and boy did he, and now Mini-me is trying yet again to steal the thunder Obama has generated ALL OVER THIS GLOBE. I am currently in the Navy and I very much respect Mcbush, but being a war hero do not qualifiy you to be the BOSS, you are just that…a war hero who sees war as the only solution to all problems and I for one am tired of war. In fact I would argue that this is not war, just another unauthorized conflict of which mini-me was a part of some 45 years ago. I have served this country now for 16 years and most of that has been at war. We are tired and weary and what this to end. Iraq is ready to defend itself, this is what Bush wanted, now this is not good enough?????? Something id afoot here people and the GOP is behind it ALL.

Also, be do not watch the olympics, I am not and very surprised bush is showing his face there, so much for our country being true leders of Demoracry in the world. I guess that was part of the loan aggrement between us and china!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought they said the announcement buzz was about getting out the VP this week to steal some glitz off Obama. Now CNN says "That appears to differ from a Washington Post report Friday that the Arizona senator plans to announce his VP choice at some point before the Olympic Games in China that kick off August 8″. I think what they intended was to make sure CNN reported an article on this blog everyday like they have for this week Obama was away. Pathetic CNN! Rudy NYC   July 25th, 2008 10:22 am ET

You know McCain wants to make his announcement first to demonstrate that he is ahead of Obama in planning how to run the White House. Camp McCain just doesn't know how that idea will fly with voters.

So they send up test balloons to see how well it go over. In light of the numerous gaffes in recent days and weeks, this probably not a bad idea. Just as long as he doesn't pick Romney.

Romney didn't do well in the GOP primaries, and will do even worse in the general election. He comes across as a bit pompous to me.

Doris,Memphis,TN   July 25th, 2008 10:23 am ET

John McCain is to be respected for his military service to this country.
However, the remark he made this week "Obama would rather
win a campaign than win a war" was disgusting. Although he is
very envious of Mitt Romney, he will be his VP.

George Howard   July 25th, 2008 10:25 am ET

Listen up people, I am an Obama supporter and would like nothing more than for him to be the next President. That being said, and you can quote me, OBAMA WILL NEVER BE PRESIDENT! The powers that be will not allow that to happen, either through election rigging or (god forbid) ‘taking him out’.
The question is, when this happens, what will you people do? Will you be good little sheep or will you make a stand?

that's funny…..mcattack had an interview on Cnn and was asked about if he had picked his running mate and he said he has made up his mind but hasn't made it official yet.

Your article states that he has not settled on a running mate yet. which is it? I don't know why I even asked because it's the same old answer. Mcbush is senile and all he can do is lie, deny and criticize.

What's unfortunate is that the press has taken to trying to cover up and protect him from his lies. It won't work, cnn, stop trying!

Casual observer   July 25th, 2008 10:25 am ET

Funny all the Obama supporters here just post snide comments about a war hero, you don't have to vote for him but he does deserve your respect. And fyi, objects in your rear view mirror are closer than they appear!

This "field" trip Obama has gone on is starting to work against him, he's just not as good of an orator when he has to answer unscripted questions. Also don't appreciate him not visiting the troops in Germany is lieu of shooting hoops. His speech yesterday was strange, definitely received a strange reaction from the Germans, it wasn't very substantive at all.

War Monger   July 25th, 2008 10:40 am ET

A vote for John McCain is a CERTAIN vote for WAR! This man is obsessed with WINNING a war, it doesn't matter which war. Now a war might be necessary during his term if he is elected, but then again it might not. Nevermind, either way if McCain gets elected hundreds of thousands more people will die in this world. That is a fact. THIS is indeed why Barack Obama is loved all over the world. Germans, like most people in the world, see the insanity in Bush foreign policy adventurism and do they not like it. They are NOT terrorist sympathizers in the least but even from across the waters they can clearly see the danger McCain represents to humanity. THIS IS WHAT EXPLAINS OBAMA'S POPULARITY.

One other fact we need to admit in America is that those code words that the Clinton's used to signal a certain segment of American society the "hard working" blue collar" "rural American", lets call them what they are, code words to for RACISTS. They are the people who would rather the country go down the toilet, than be lead by a 'black 'man. Let us not pretend that is not a fact. If McCain wins it will be due, in large part, to this ugly racists underbelly. Obama is betting that America is better than that. I am with too betting and hoping.

Bobby, Triangle, VA   July 25th, 2008 10:41 am ET

John McCain is way too old to be president, he needs to be in a nursing home or sitting at home reading a book. Here's to you President John McCain!!!!

You Dems do not realize this, but a lot of moderates (such as myself) really like McCain because we are in the middle. We don't like Dem policies on a lot of stuff (no drilling, raise taxes, anti-war), but we are not hardcore conservatives either (it is a woman's choice on abortion, we are not religious nutjobs). McCain has done MORE than any other senator to REACH ACROSS PARTY LINES.

More of you should appreciate him for what he was done. Just as Obama is pandering to the hardcore liberals in the election runup, so too is John McCain pandering to radical conservatives.

Those of us in the middle see Obama as toooooo far left. John McCain swings just enough towards the middle.

If he gets a VP whose sole responsibility is the economy…than it is settled and President McCain will crush the far left wing Barack Obama.

Stop drinking the flavor-aid and re-read my comment again.

Anybody that lives in this economy knows you can't spend what you don't have.
________________________________________________
I don't know. The Republicans have been doing a pretty good job of it. Bush, Bush, and Reagan have accumulated 76% of the entire U.S. national debt in less than 20 years. Pretty impressive, huh?

Their accumulation rate is an average of $366 billion per year, nearly 3 times the rate of Clinton and Carter at $133 billion per year. The other 38 Presidents averaged only about $3.5 billion per year. Therefore, the spendthrift tag team of BB&R have accumulated debt at a rate over 30 times greater that our other 40 Presidents (including Clinton and Carter).

But who needs facts, when you can have biased right wing ideology and mythology?

And the fact that Obama is the "presumptive" nominee is all the more presumptuous speaking in Europe the way he did at the time he did. Really pretty ridiculous.

Obama will win and all you pessimists who harbor disdain for Obama's popularity at home and abroad had best get over it or prepare to live in that state of mind for at least the next four years. There is, however, another alternative. While you can't control whether Obama moves to Europe where he is soooo well liked, you can control whether you move to some other country where he is not so well liked (but good luck finding one). I actually encourage you to do just that because you are the weakest links that have enabled Bush to place the US in this predicament in the first place. Let me be clear…Obama is no Messiah and can perform no miracles, but there is an undeniable similarity to THE Messiah. He is being persecuted by the very people he has come to serve.

McCAIN SHOULD PICK A YOUNG PERSON FOR HIS V.P., THE REASON IS, HE WILL DIE OF OLD AGE IN IS FIRST TERM AND THE V.P. WILL BE OUR PRESIDENT, BUT I DON'T THINK WE HAVE TO WORRY BECAUSE HE HAS NO CHANCE OF BECOMING OUR NEXT PRESIDENT.

OBAMA WILL BE OUR NEXT PRESIDENT.

TheOtherSide   July 25th, 2008 10:54 am ET

He is waiting Obama to announce so that he can criticize, stupid.

Not sleeping at the switch   July 25th, 2008 10:55 am ET

There was NEVER a time..this whole "story" was brought up so McCain could be in the news everyday while Obama was out making him look like the non-world leader he is.

ALL you need to know about mcCain is the fact that he REFUSED to obey the unwrtten rule of Politics. EVEN between HATED opponents throughout our history. NEVER SPEAK ILL OF A U.S. Politician when they are out of our Country. ESpecially when they are visiting an ACTIVE Warzone. He hasn't shut up for 1 hour since Obama left, in fact he leaked his travel plans BEFORE they were made public.

McCain has proven to be unstable in memory, policy, morals and integrity.

I think the GOP shoudl be able to replace him at this point with a more viable candidate. They will still lose but it would be a face saving move NOT to have this man held up as the Best of the Best they have to offer.

Raymond Duke   July 25th, 2008 10:55 am ET

I don't know when McCain should make the announcement of who should run as his vp. I think that he can probably skip someone from the south more than likely because the south looks at canidates hard and they will read Obama's B.S. pretty quick compared to the north, north east and the extreme west coast. I think the western states will be safe for him to. They are a lot like southerns and display a lot of good old common sense. so he had better pick someone from the areas that will help him in the electoral vote. Obama can claim all he wants to about it being publicized about visiting the wounded troops in Germany . As a veteran of twenty years I know that regulations apply to stop photo ops and stuff like that from happening. He has no excuse from not visiting them. If he can go on his "GOD" tour of europe than he could have seen the troops instead of drinking champagin and listening to rock concerts staged to open his events. The man is just a slug and hates the military.

Mike   July 25th, 2008 10:55 am ET

It is important to find a VP that has supported the war and is very vocal on support of the 'Surge' since this is all McWar talks about. You would think McBush engineered the Surge himself and not Gen Petraeus to hear him talk. McSurge brags non stop about supporting the Surge. Of course he supported the Surge since he supported this terrible, foolish and wasteful war from the onset. McBush critisizes Obama for not supporting the Surge. Again, of course Obama did not support the Surge. Obama has been very rightfully against this foolish war over oil rights, so for Obama to be for an escalation of the war would have made him as hypocritical as McWar himself. Did the Surge do some good? Yes it did, very much in part because of the Sunni Tribes coming over to our side. McLiar says the Surge is the reason the Sunni Tribes turned. False, the Sunni Tribes turned well before the Surge was even proposed. Although the Surge was a good thing. We are still mired in a war that kills our young Soldiers and we gain nothing from it unless your an Oil Company CEO or are being paid by one. Obama rightfully wants an end to the Iraq occupation and so do the people and government of Iraq. McWar speaks of a 50 to 100 year occupation of Iraq against the desire of their people and ours. If all McBush has is his Surge, which has ended. Then McBush has nothing to offer.

McCain to campaign manager… I need attention so, what's the plan?
This little guy will be the end of this Country if he is elected to office. He is a hot head and I don't think I would want him any where near the red phone, holding any codes etc…. All, his so call experience is about a bunch of nothing!!! I'm personally too scared that he will have a flash back and it will be over!!!
Trust me I have seen this before in War Vets!!! The are outstanding folks one day and the next it's all over!!!

lost in manhattan   July 25th, 2008 10:57 am ET

i'm sure the mccain campaign isn't dropping vp options to national news providers to "check out the reaction." cnn alone has had a page devoted to both candidates' vp possibilities for like three months now. the article says he'll pick when he's ready, (just like obama will pick when HE'S ready) and he'll pick from a selection of willing and able candidates who can support his platform. he's not fly-fishing for any republican who will bite - that's just absurd.

Wayne   July 25th, 2008 10:58 am ET

This election couldnt be more simple. This election is about the last 8 years of Republican leadership. On every issue you will find either corruption, incompetence or neglect.

This is not a test of Obama. This is a test of the collective intelligence of the American people. If McCain wins, I see the vary voters who elected him complaining about the war and the economy for the next four years just like those who voted for Bush.

If Obama wins I see things going back to what it was like under Clinton. Even though they were primary foes the similarities are everywhere. In 92 Clinton ran on change. He was the fresh new face with new ideas. Both Clinton and Obama came from very humble beginnings.

Virgil   July 25th, 2008 11:00 am ET

The precision and efficiency of the Obama campaign has reduced John McCain to a shell of his former self 2000, "Maverick" self.

Timing? Timing? McCain needs to stop playing "Psychological Games" with the American public and name the person. He needs all the help he can get as quickly as he can get it.

I'm really starting to question his respect for tangible progress on things. Maybe he has lost his bearings.

- he spoke of the PSYCHOLOGICAL impact of telling "the market" that we would drill for oil offshore; that was suppose to lower prices

- his chief economic adviser, who WROTE his economic plan, spoke of a MENTAL" recession caused by WHINERS.

- he has offered ZERO in the way of true plans and solutions for the country's problems … all he has done is criticize Senator Obama … including about this trip, which he, McCain, goaded Obama into taking.

- and finally, all this week he was worried about how to steal the spotlight back from the Senator's ground breaking trip / speech to 200,000+ of European citizens … something he couldn't do … even with the power of the Presidency … in a million years.

Screw timing McCain. You have LOST YOUR BEARINGS. Do SOMETHING man! Where is your dignity?

Betty - AK   July 25th, 2008 11:00 am ET

Good job CNN - 5 days in a row to finally tell us he can't remember who he wants.

McCain needs to define a "win" - he needs to explain his policy on a lot of issues. Instead, he's leading you all around by the nose to get free publicity.

It's pitiful.

Flashback From Abroad Nov 2004:
After 4 years the US's president Bush is facing a tough reelection year. Under his watch the world has seen more rogue countries obtaining and testing nuclear missles while it's image is tarnished. Meanwhile the nation struggles with its war in the Middle East that will ultimately never have a clear winner, and lastly there are further allegations that there might have been some fib telling in the White House. This will be a tough election for GW Bush and his administration.

Flashback From the World Press Dec 2004:
The USA has reelected their leader for a second term! Tha's right, they chose him again! We also report that it wasn't even a close election. Senator Kerry did not stand a chance against America's love of the intellect and direction of their president. The world braces for four more years of George W Bush. Nucular!

To those suggesting that 200,000 people came out to see a concert, can you tell me who was playing? When was the last time a concert drew 200,000? The vast majority of the crowd was there for Obama. Get over it.

You can cheer up, though. McCain drew a crowd of 27 people to Schmidt's Sausage Haus in Columbus, but I think all but two were there for the sausages. ROTFLMAO!

A President less appealing than two day old meatloaf cannot lead our nation out of the mess we are in. We need a leader, not a caretaker.

Anti-Obama Americans make me laugh hysterically.

It's clear you're bigots because Obama possesses no threat to you NOT to vote for him. Infact, he possesses qualities that should make you vote for him. He's being direct, laying everything on the table for you to eat and digest rather than starving you of the truth like your past politicians whom have mastered that art. Your past politicians also mastered the art of playing on your fears and persuading you to vote for them which insults your intelligence and yet you all of a sudden are intelligent voters for McCain. LMAO! Where were your intelligent voting senses when you elected Bush for the 1st term and re-elected him for the 2nd term? LMAO! You got fooled by the same administration that McCain is running under and you still remain fooled or maybe you’re not fooled, you’re just in denial from fear of an African American being your next President. The latter is clearer. This makes you a bigot and not someone with a difference of opinion. What’s that difference of opinion anyway? That McCain will help control/revive your current #1 issue which is your economic downfall/recession? Not good enough! You know why? Because McCain does not know the first thing about Economics and your economy and he even admitted it openly. At least he was honest about it. LMAO! Okay, so he’ll take revenge on your attackers rather than protect you ahead of time from them. Hasn’t the approval rating for your so called war on Iraq dropped dramatically? It’s clear, you’re a bigot!

McCain should pick Hillary because they seem keen on picking people who lose. Oh, btw after reading these blogs I think education should be Issue #1. I am speaking about both McCain and Obama supporters. Its hard to get your point across when you're talking about a "looser" or a "losser". Its also hard when all you do is type in caps how Obama hates America but you don't comment on the subject of the blog and say "Nobama" over and over again. Whatever happen to intelligent conversation? What happened to discussing facts, not spewing outright lies and insults? Stop calling one another racists, sexists, and stupid. As an Obama supporter, I've got to say its really disappointing to read these blogs and see some of the comments coming from both sides. Oh, and McCain/Clinton people (I'm just wondering… did some of you know the primary is over? She's not running anymore) if you would like to know why some of you are called racist? Its not just because he's black its because when people ask you why you DO not support him you all give the same answers that are either inaccurate or false. Then, every single thing he does, good or bad, you come on these blogs and call him an idiot. I just want one LOGICAL explaination about, not just your dislike, but seemingly vitrol hatred for the man. One would think he burned your house down or something. No one said you had to personally like him, but it seems like something much more, and one can only attribute such irrational emotion to something other than Obama himself. I do not believe all of the people who are not voting for him are racist, but when people say things like "he's a muslim", "how can you elect Hussein Obama?" and "A dead Obama supporter is a good Obama supporter" one has to really wonder. BTW all those comments are from these blogs.

He has served his country and deserves better than to be the butt of some Obama idiot supporters jokes. What the hell has Osama, I mean Obama done excpet give a speech and pal around with Wright, an obvious racist and anti-American. wow griff, comparing mccain to eisenhower? that's a bit of a stretch. eisenhower warned us about the dangers of the military-industrial complex while mccain openly embraces it. also, eisenhower despised war ("I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity"), whereas mccain seems to revel in it ("bomb bomb bomb bomb iran"). just because they were both in the military DOESn'T make them similar. do some research next time.

Henry n New York   July 25th, 2008 11:21 am ET

Regardless of the polls - the politicians know the polls are slanted- they also know the congress and senate will be practically cleaned out of republicans come November. The only republican that McSame can get for a VP running mate is one that doesn't currently have a job. Sitting governors, congressman and the like know if they get on this ship the McTitanic THEY'RE GOING DOWN

With McCains botching of historical facts he seems like an old man with Alzheimer's and you try to explain he is wrong about the Iraq Annwhar awakening; the awakening started in August 2007, the surge troops were sent in February 2007 and didn't start operations until July 2007; No McCain the surge did not save the life of the Sheik that started the awakening you for some reason believe it did but he died in December 2007. The fact is maybe the surge helped but it was in no way the catalyst that you are spinning it to be. Second, the surge is a tactical strategy; not a Middle East Policy. With this and all the flip/flopping, the confused statements - in his field of expertise I might add - the geographical inaccuracies and campaign staff issues no wonder Veep interest for McCain is almost null.

Left Coast Tim   July 25th, 2008 11:21 am ET

This suggestion is part-serious/part-superfluous, but here's my
suggestion for a Veep running mate for EITHER candidate:
an Asian-American female. Requisite 35-years old, at least
2nd or 3rd-generation so the red-necks can't say "She ain't
a real Amerrikun". Pretty, confident, and smart. Like a TV
News Anchor, Lawyer, Scientist, etc. Someone who actually
knows about the economy or global warming, etc. Minorities
would vote for her candidate 'cuz she wouldn't be yet another
WASP male, women would vote for her 'cuz she's one of their
own, and guys would vote for her 'cuz they'd like to see her naked.
Think of one of the lead characters in "Grouching Tiger,
Hidden Dragon". Like Condie Rice, only with integrity and
her OWN mind. Works for me!

ohio independent   July 25th, 2008 11:22 am ET

well you know there is one thing i noticed. McCain isn't
rallying crowds in Berlin before he takes care of some
logical bases first—like selecting a VP and campaigning
in the country of the actual upcoming election!
McCain would be so grilled if he had done a grandstand like that
and all of you Obama lovers and media know it.
Take Obama to the carpet on that one! Do you guys ever
question anything Obama does?
It's ridiculous.

Since the Obama discussion was already closed I guess I have no choice but to rant in this one. Obama visits to other nations is the greatest thing that has happened to this country in A LONG time. When Bush went abroad he was greeted my anti American people. Obama went without a war agenda to attack other countries. He went looking for PEACE. We once had most of the world on our side after 9/11 and they felt our pain here. Bush ruined that when he starting calling other countries a "Axis of Evil" when these countries had nothing to do with 9/11. Why didn't he put Saudi Arabia on that list? Is it because they have the oil that we need and get from? McShame is following Bush's trail. McShame is so threaten by Obama because he knows that Obama will once again UNITE other nations to back us. We need other Nations to stand with us to defeat the Radical groups who do NOT want peace. The USA has image of being a very cocky country and that perception needs to stop. We are not the police of the world. So go ahead and call me unpatriotic because I feel this way.

Willow, from Iowa   July 25th, 2008 11:27 am ET

McCain used the fact that Obama hadn't been overseas in YEARS (fact: in 2006) as some of his negative campaigning. Now that he's gone overseas, McCain is trying to use That in his negative campaign that Obama is bragging, taking a victory lap, and should never have gone. Just like the rest of McCain's campaigning, its all negative. He even flip flops on his negatives. McCain needs to take a vacation, like about 8 years long.

Debra Austin, Texas   July 25th, 2008 11:29 am ET

Funny, the American people have known all week there wouldn't be a VP announcement, but the media is still waiting with baited breath. Journalism USED to be a profession. Now it's just entertainment.

D. King   July 25th, 2008 11:30 am ET

McSurge says it will definitely be that guy… what's his name… Nit… or was it… Rudee. Anyway he was for the surgery… I mean surge. Quit twisting my words… I'm so confused.

Betty - AK   July 25th, 2008 11:30 am ET

Wow ! I just came back to get other's opinions and read some of the HATE !!!!

It's hard to believe people in this country actually feel so much negativity so strongly about another human being.

Too bad - anger and frustration clouds the mind. Oh well - I like to hear other people's opinions, and am willing to listen to both McCain and Obama - just as I listened to the other candidates in the primaries.

Oh well.

Not Reporting the Good News?

A sharp decline in the intensity of news coverage of the Iraq war immediately followed General David Petraeus' testimony before Congress last September.

Cybercast News reports that data from the Multi-National Force-Iraq shows there were 219 embedded reporters in Iraq when Petraeus told Congress that the surge was working. That was also the month that the surge reached full force.

The number of embedded reporters has since dropped by 74 percent in nine months to just 58 in June.

The largest single-month drop in embeds came in October of 2007 right after the general's testimony.

Trust your media?

pam Eugene OR   July 25th, 2008 11:30 am ET

McCain is throwing out speculation on his VP in a weak attempt to stay relevant in the news. He can't stand all the good press Obama is getting. He is green with envy. He will probably not announce till late in August.
But then, who really cares anymore.

JD   July 25th, 2008 11:31 am ET

being black myself, and an ardent mccain supporter i don't get where the enthusiasm for barack comes from… are yall just feelin guilty that your ancestors made us slaves??? the guy knows nothing… not that john mccain is einstein but at least hes done it enough before to use muscle memory and go through the motions…
lastly, anyone saying mcbush is ignorant,. just plain ignorant… george bush is a republican, john mccain is a conservative… mccain has crossed party lines, W creates them… mccain IS A HERO, bush was a coward, mccain is pro choice, bush not so much…. WHAT ARE THE SIMILARITIES? old white republicans? sounds like yall the racists to me

Elly   July 25th, 2008 11:31 am ET

Who cares who he picks but hopefully its not the arrogant Romney
Pawlenty is a much better pick realistically!!

As I see it tho there are only two questions to ask yourselves here:

Would you rather have a young bright and alert intellectual mind in a crisis
or an old man who is bordering on the beginning of dementia
Who is not quite sure who the enemy is from one day to the next or where they are for that matter.

The answer is simple,
Obama 08

Tyler in Raleigh   July 25th, 2008 11:31 am ET

McCain just wants another 15 minutes on TV. No one is interested in following his tired campaign around because the only "news" is when he makes a gaffe about Iraq or countries that don't exist anymore.

If people did not figure out that it was a campaign stunt, they must still believe Bush when he says "Mission Accomplished".

sarah waters   July 25th, 2008 11:31 am ET

The guys is so out of his league…….just say nobama!!!!! He goes over to Berlin and insults our country-maybe he should apply to be a german citizen!

Betty - AK   July 25th, 2008 11:32 am ET

OOPS - wrong ticker. My previous comment about hate was meant for the other one where HATE was spewed by "American". Sorry.

Alex M   July 25th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Hey CNN why don't you let us know when he picks a VP, not when he may possibly might pick a VP at some unkown time or date.

I hope he picks Romney so that Romneys enormous ego gets crushed this november.

ClintonDem4Cynthia08   July 25th, 2008 11:34 am ET

WOW. Obama is arrogant. Anybody else see his Berlin speech? Did we already have an election, and he forgot to tell us? That speech single handedly turned off thousands of on the fence voters across the US. We've never cared what Europe thought about us. Obama should know this.

NoMcSame   July 25th, 2008 11:34 am ET

America will be isolated as much as North Korea if we pick McSame for president. The world will see how stupid and ignorant we are if we do and the whole world wants a change and Obama is the one that can bring the world together to put that into effect. Many white Americans don't like the fact that a blackman has that much power or should I say is that likable by so many. White America just have a problem with that but the rest of the world is moving on people and they want the best person for the job even if he is green. The world is speaking America and we better learn how to listen.
McSame is old and as they say "sold in his ways" and the days of the "good ole boys" are done. Rush is wrong and he lies to you every day pushing his DOPEie thoughts into your heads and blinding you with his hate speach. Its time to move on past that crap.
Obama08

E. Scott   July 25th, 2008 11:35 am ET

CNN, could you be more obvious. Why wont you post pro-McCain comments. Are you a news organization or not.

Obamalism   July 25th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Obama's trip would have been encouraged had it been for the right reasons. It was a campaign pure and simple. He gave a speech in Germany that bashed America and gave a craptastic excuse to not visit the troops. We're wooed by the crowds that showed up but, once again, no mention of the TWO, popular music bands that performed for free.
They hung obama posters on the west wall in Jerusalem! Hell, lets decorate the vatican while we're at it!

After this big long trip around the world…he STILL doesn't have any foreign experience. He's a COMMUNITY ORGANIZER and a professional campaigner!

S.B. Stein E.B. NJ   July 25th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Did this report mention Charlie Black? Wow! I thought that he was replaced and asked to leave the campaign. I guess that means that with the McCain campaign, you never leave. I think it is time to see how the McCain campaign works (if it does). I thought that Phil Gramm was leaving his role, but it isn't clear and sure. Charlie Black is still there despite many calls for his departure. Maybe one of these two guys could be the VP for McCain since they seem to do a lot of speaking for him, but not for him.

Donkey Party   July 25th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Behold the final throes of a mud-slinging, empty rhetoric, disgraceful campaign. RIP McAncient campaign.

m smith   July 25th, 2008 11:35 am ET

I think his VP should be the "FAT LADY". The one that sings before it is all over.

RJ   July 25th, 2008 11:36 am ET

He probably forgot who he picked.

rexx   July 25th, 2008 11:37 am ET

In the end it won't matter. McCain will win in Nov. Obama has no experience and is on the far Left. Now the lefties on here can post all the junk they want but the fact is most Americans do not want a Socialist State. McCain is a true leader. Obama is only one more Chicago machine politico who is only a cheerleader.

easy rider   July 25th, 2008 11:37 am ET

Perhaps he will pick Cindy as his VP.

Jim   July 25th, 2008 11:39 am ET

He might as well just pick George Bush as his VP.

He's adopted all of his policies!!!!

Who does he think he's kidding???

haha   July 25th, 2008 11:39 am ET

I've lost respect for McCain. He could have taken Obama's trip in stride like a man who wants to be president instead of being angry and complaining of media love. For just 5 days McCain lost all composure. Is this how he'll handle the 3am call?
using different tatics to get attention, Vp buzz and german themed day. It looks very childish, there is no creativity in it.
Though going to see the oil spill site in Miss. River would have given a wounderful picture and AD on why off shore drilling is bad.

nick, houston   July 25th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Honestly, who actually cares?

tedious898   July 25th, 2008 11:40 am ET

I honestly feel sorry for Sen. McCain. I always liked him but he never seemed presidential. These days just angry and frustrated.

I do not think its going to matter who his VP is. This election is about the two candidates. All McCain can do is make this a referendum on Obama. He's critics Obama's every move and needs the press to cover up his many gaffes.

I will be amazed if a majority of americans vote for Sen. McCain because for the first time in a long time I believe we will vote
FOR THE SMART GUY - THIS TIME! Obama

Nate   July 25th, 2008 11:41 am ET

Anyone but Slick Romney.

dave in Pa   July 25th, 2008 11:41 am ET

Nice to see that McBush can still deflect attention from Obama's trip. I like the stunt of having the LA Gov state that he will NOT be a VP. (snicker, snicker). Way to go!! By the way, good message "East Coast Bum". God bless you and YOUR service! I don't like war either.
