GUIXI TOWNSHIP, China (CNN) — At least 3,629 people have been confirmed dead and 18,645 are trapped under debris in Mianyang City, the epicenter of Monday’s earthquake, China’s official news agency Xinhua reported Tuesday.

The quake also severely damaged buildings, roads and telecommunications facilities, and there was no water in many areas, Xinhua reported.

The figures from Mianyang City bring the death toll from the quake to 11,921 as of 2 p.m. Tuesday (2 a.m. ET), said Xinhua, quoting the disaster relief headquarters headed by Premier Wen Jiabao.
